+1, it also epitomizes the type of person that puts off all age groups from activities including forums & LV'ing

Yes I read it earlier this morning forgot to mention, sorry. Sounds interesting. Similar to club cubicles? Will check it out. Not planning on ANY updates indoors for while too many decisions. We have one room left to get replastered, 1930s house, so it's just a coat of paint to freshen up, easier and cheaper as we age! Bathroom and kitchen done in the last 5 years too.

I agree that the "bank of mum and dad"is what keeps some of todays youngsters from "problems" but when talking to what seems the majority of the "grey generation" we seem to be helping them more than our parents helped us, because of their "lifestyle"look to us more and more ,not so much because of the cost of modern living

Our new passports have arrived 😆. That's been 9 days since we caught last post on Monday evening. So 6 actual working days assuming they work Monday to Friday. Texts to say arrived and then they were on their way in the meantime. Fantastic service!
They seem to be rather different to our old ones in size, photos, inner pages and requiring a signature. We had biometric ones before too.
Now feel we are all systems go in case of emergency 😉
Have managed to shower and dress, luckily as they required signature for passports but not usual postal delivery. But still not progressing much as reading the blurb with passports and catching up on here.
Must take myself in hand!

I thought it was this time next year you were going to be a "mill yon air" BB.

What are parents for if it's not to help their offspring to get as best a start in life as they can? It is easy to forget that my generation, I am 71, grew up in the immediate post war years and neither of our parents were in a position to help us financially. I have to say that it is only since retirement and no longer with a mortgage that we have in any way felt financially comfortable. There were many years when credit cards were not paid off in full and a few years when it was a bit hand to mouth. We got through it as will the majority of the current youngsters. There will always be those that deride the youngsters of the day whilst they themselves bask in pensions that are income linked, free bus passes, free prescriptions and discounted access to lots of places of interest but of course they have earnt that

i do not think anyone minds helping their offspring to get the best start in like, but what seems to be a growing trend is "expecting" it to be the norm when they as was known in our day are "keeping up with the joneses" rather than living within you means

Wow, Victor Meldrew lives!
Why so down on youngsters, JV? Surely you're not envious of their future?
2 -
You can accurately say that for your own 'offspring' JV but you're in no position to generalise with any accuracy whatsoever. Unless of course you've conducted a nationwide poll.

generally found the kids that come in to my shop aren't that bad ,and if you treat them with respect they will respect you back , yes ,there are all ways a few that want to push the boundaries but quiet word brings them back in line
after all we were all young once, and of course innocent

I do not have to generalise?with any, as you put it accuracy it is the growing amount of "age related" (ours) conversations that are carried out in locations/clubs that ours and slightly younger generations all frequent, which if a nation wide poll was carried out like all polls the answers would only be dependent on how the "question" is formatted

In the earlier years of my kids marriages we may have helped them a little but now I would say that their income exceeds ours.
I can't recall them being frivolous or expecting help.
Not all children are the same and not all parents can afford to help out either. Luckily there are other ways of helping out, support and love is worth more than money.

I think they are doing more to destroy their own futures, with what seems an ever increasing "must have" society, driven by excesses that are destroying our planet, if there was more of "do i really need it?" instead of "i must have it",It was not as bad for most of us when we were younger ,but it is now out of control, and "lip service" by any government is not going to stop it

Sorry, what "lip service"?
I'm quite shocked by the size of the chip on your shoulder, JV. No offence, perhaps you've had some bad experiences.
1 -
I feel quite sorry for you ending up with that impression after so many years, JV.
My life experience is nearly as long as yours and I have a very different outlook. Perhaps your university of life had a very restricted curriculum.

Bubble? Nope, the world is my oyster, JV.
It's not a case of real life - of course it's real life - but more how one views life. The positive thinkers amongst us see the good and don't get dragged down by the minority that is bad. The negative thinkers, on the other hand, only see the bad and revel in gloom and doom. "Always look on the bright side of life" - you should try it.

Whoops, more planet destroying eh JV?, 'physician heel thyself' not just the young then

Do you actually have children? I ask as I am not sure where you are getting your information or on what information you are forming your opinions on which seems to tar all youngsters with the same brush with the generalisations you make all the time. A lot of young people over the age of 25 are having a pretty tough time at the moment. I am not quite sure what you expect them to do without in order the live the sackcloth and ashes existence you seem to suggest they live?
