Just back early from a stay at this site due the weather which poor and prolonged. The site itself is very good and well run be staff who were helpful, always cheerful and knowledgeable. The amenities bar one are great and the visiting fish and chip van on a Friday was a welcome addition to the norm. There are however two issues that I feel are worth raising for the benefit of future visitors, one on this site and the other a general complaint that probably affects all sites which I will address first. On two occasions whilst there we and others were prevented from leaving the site by motorhome drivers who chose to park their vans on the road in front of the foul and chemical water disposal areas. We (five vehicles some with vans behind) waited while they emptied and cleaned the appropriate containers instead of taking them to the disposal point from their pitch. Could we please have no parking signs erected to prevent this form of ignorance? The next concerns Rookesbury and digital communication, the wifi with internet which I was advised was of bronze standard proved non existent and mobile phones were  a non starter. Even the back up service running the wifi were unable to help. This meant that we were reliant on pamphlets for external attractions of which there were few or tourist information in Fareham (no longer has one). If these site facilities are not improved visitors need to do their homework before they leave.

Moderator Comment - This is a site review, not a story I will move it to UK Campsite but would poster please complete a review on the appropriate part of the website.

I am puzzled. Is this all about Rookesbury, or just the duff wifi?

It is a bit puzzling as it's not clear if it is all to do with Rookesbury Park or is it a second site? Regarding the motorhomes, I think we need to know whether they were are the designated waste water emptying point or elsewhere? If it's the former, I always empty my chemical toilet at the same time as my waste tank is draining, perhaps the OP was not able to see the water being drained? Perhaps he would like to explain a little more?

I took it to mean a different site - for the blocking the road bit - but it has been moved here - perhaps its' first location explained more?

I can't say I have been help up by MHs doing their thing but I have noticed how long it takes some wink

Baffled to say the least. Where I wonder does the OP expect M/H's to empty their waste water and refill, like DK we tend to do the toilet at the same time while waste water is emptying.

There have been a few occasions where I have taken water, waste and toilet containers to a service point in the back of the Land Rover when it has been a particularly long distance or the ground has been unsuitable. Yet I can't think of anywhere that it would have not been possible for another vehicle to pass.

I certainly never thought of going off to do the toilet at the same time!

We were at Rookesbury Park in May and had no problem with either Internet or phone signal.  Guess it could be due to where you pitched.  Motorhomers were using the dump facilities when we were leaving and didn't impede us.

There seem to be two motorhome service points at Rooksbury. The one nearest us had plenty of room which you can see from the photos. Not so sure about the one at the other toilet block which is on the more direct route out of the site?

I took the MH problem to be a one affecting sites in general, and the problem to be not with the MH service point, but rather  MHs stopping at regular service points to empty toilet etc, thus blocking the site road.

is this the new improved version....?undecided

perhaps the number of the local chiropractor could be taped to the manhole cover? wink

i cant tell from the picture, however, if the traffic flow was left to right, but if so, with my 'offside' drain, i would be struggling to get in tight enough to the fence to position it over the hole....

with the traffic right to left, with my offside outlet positioned nicely over the drain, my van would be stuck out into the traffic flow....

also, folk have to have enough room to open their doors.....

perhaps this is what the OP was alluding to?

A very strange OP. I took the emptying problem to refer to standard service points rather than the dedicated one. Otherwise I cannot see what difference there is between standing watching it empty and sorting the cassette while it does it. I have seen signs on a few outlawing MH emptying, so I assume problems do arise. As to the wifi / phone. Bronze is the minimum standard. On a full sites it will struggle, particularly if folk try and use it for streaming. This means you cannot even connect giving the appearance of it being non existent. The phone moan, what network, does the OP have phones for? The site leaflet, available on line,  says some networks don't work, so no surprise there. If phones / wifi are important to you it is always worth checking before you visit. As we need to have at least phone coms, I recently rang the warden on a site in a poor coverage area and he was able to advise on what networks worked.

As the OP wrote it as a story, he's unlikely to find his post here so I guess he won't be showing up to explain, especially as he's not used the forum previously.

It is invariably the case with threads that have been imported from other places on the site that the OPs are never heard of again. They are unlikely to be aware that a discussion is taking place.

DK left a message before moving the story. The posts usually get left for 24 hrs in the hope they'll be seen by the OP.

    TW

Your point about this being his/her first post on the forum is a valid one. However from experience even when you leave a message asking for the post to be made in the right place you only get a reply in about 10% of cases. It does seem that there is a high incidence of post and forget!!! I have suggested in the past that people who post in the story section get an automatic notification when they get a comment but this has not been taken up!

I like that suggestion David. Could you try and push it with HO. As many of us post on a number different subjects it's difficult to remember which ones that one has responded to.
