Caravan Jumble

I have just posted a reply about caravan covers and I realised that I have loads of new & nearly new caravan equipment which I should sell.  I am sure some new to caravaning  could make good use of my unwanted goodies.

I really hate the packing & shipping element of auction sites so the kit sits here unsold!

It crossed my mind that an auto-jumble style event for caravans and MHs would be useful, has anyone come across such an event.

We've sold lots of vanning bits on PreLoved. It's easy to advertise and if you stick to cash only, buyer collects, it's no trouble.

We have just sold some surplus caravan equipment on Gumtree,  ad free, buyer came to see stuff, paid money and took it away, all within 48 hours, fabulous!  smile

Did our Club not sponsor recently a caravan jumble sale at some (all?) sites.  I recall coming back from Strathclyde Park with lots of stuff.

Hi Stephen, two of the most popular second hand market places, EBay and Gumtree have already been mentioned here and both attract thousands of visitors through internet searches, every day. Furthermore, you can stipulate 'buyer collects' under delivery options. Of course there are other options, car boot sales, garage sales etc, but why chose a marketplace with such limited numbers when you could use a shop window with a huge viewing public. We often sell things on EBay, rather than bury them in the loft, which makes me feel rather good about recycling too.

I am fully aware of the options for selling  on ebay & gumtree and I have successfully sold small items but I think I mentioned it is not the putting things up for sale that is difficult it is the deciding on a delivery cost and then packing and sending heavy or bulky (or both) items. Also, call me old fashioned and mistrustful, but, if I use the "buyer collect" feature, I don't fancy having buyers call at my home address. One would end up with all kinds of unsavoury caravaning  types at ones home.

I was pleased to hear from Monsieur Navigateur that there may in fact be caravan jumbles, hope I can find one.

Stephen if you find one in Lincolnshire let me know - I daresay there would be caravan stuff at the huge Auto Jumbles that go on at Newark and Swinderby?  Then again the pitches for those would be pricey?

Sounds to me that it would be an idea addition to have at the National Rally. A captive audience of thousands?

We have used both Preloved and Gumtree to buy and sell things. Both we found to be excellent. When we purchased anything we always go and see the item at the sellers before purchasing. Bought many things for the caravan from these sites.

Or better still, why not have a fixed date in, say, March and open all club sites free of charge to club members only for purposes of selling surplus equipment etc.,

Now that would be 'the club' working for its members!

I suppose Club sites would be a good idea as you perhaps select one in each region to stop the need to travel long distances. If the Club can use its sites to promote the non Club activity, see here, why not something that would benefit members?

We sold all our caravanning stuff on ebay when we changed to our motorhome. We stipulated home collection and this worked for all but one, an item that wasn't the most popular, weighed a lot and had to be sent a long distance. However the buyer arranged a carrier and all went well. The good thing about ebay is that bidding can increase the price. Not so on boot sales and jumble where we people will tend to offer less if they can and you have the cost of renting a pitch or table. Also carting it around and maybe taking it back home again.

We were surprised how keen people were to buy all the items and several travelled from neighbouring counties to collect. We sell on ebay quite often so have a good rating and take careful photos etc. No "unsavoury" characters emerged, most were keen caravanners who were looking to pay less secondhand.

The selling costs have risen a bit on ebay but we recently sold a garage item for a £500 profit plus £50 costs so it can be worth it.

Strathclyde Park would suit me, but what if they chose Wick as it's nearly 300 miles away?

Oh - wait a minute, if they choose Strathclyde, then its 300 miles for the people from Wick!

As a 'members only' deal I would not expect the club to charge entry fees for using an odd plot of grass (as opposed to a pitch) for sales purposes.

i.e. roll up and sell by 10.00hrs and depart by, say 16.00hrs. By all means stay on site as a camper with your vehicles, but that is a different matter.
