Caravan cover, a good idea or not?

I have recently bought a second hand caravan, old but dry and everything works.  I am wondering whether to buy a caravan cover to cover the van during winter  storage.  What is the concensus on these, are they a good idea, or are there downsides?

Any opinions, advice and guidance welcome

Their a good idea: But make sure you get a good waterproof one: Some are just water repellent and the van is wet thru under it. Thats not good is it stays wet for long periods:

I bought a top cover for my caravan for the few months in the year when we are not using it.

The roof on a modern caravan is covered with obstacles so the first thing was to construct a frame from plumbing parts so that I could lift the cover clear as we pulled it over the roof.

I was not going to put the cover on until while the van was wet, trapping water in seemed worse than no cover at all. Never found that day, the cover remains unused 3 years on.

Have you ever tried getting a cover folded back down to the size of box it was delivered in,they must be vacuum packed. (This is true of awnings as well).

Quick getaway for an unplanned weekend, hampered!

So No! I have no use for them.

I have used a full cover in the past and still do. Many think that rain is the enemy of Caravans and while it might have some detrimental effects, ultra violet light is far more damaging. So a covered van doesn't have the problems of discoloured and brittle plastic parts or paintwork with a powder finish! Ultra violet light working together with rain will kill a caravan. I also cover my tyres at all times- they are now 6 years old and not a crack to be found!

Like Stephen P as far as I am concerned they hamper a quick get away so no use to me. Also in storage the van next to us had a cover in the winter wind it shifted and it had knocked the side marker light lenses off.

I have an older caravan, had it for 7 years and its now 26years old and still going strong. I bought a waterproof/breathable cover for it the first year I had it and use it every winter. I Give the van a good wash and let it dry before it goes on.  Takes me about 20 minutes to put on by myself and the same to take off and pack away. Keeps the van clean and dry so no need to wash it again before the first trip out.  Wouldn't be without it.

I was going to add a photo but apparently the files to big.

I seem to be having a problem with photo's, been trying to change my profile photo but doesn't seem to work for me.
