London - Devon, which route?
Can some of you more seasoned travelers offer some advice for our next trip please. We are off to Sidmouth CC site in a couple of weeks and I was wondering what was the best route ?
Not been that way for about 4 years now so is my usual route of M3 & A303 the best bet or would I be better off doing the few extra miles and taking the M4, M5 route.
Can anyone also recommend a half way stop off point for either route where I can let the dogs stretch their legs .

Living near the area you're heading for I would suggest avoiding the M4 route as it links into the busiest section of the M5 through Bristol and Weston super Mare.
If you use the A303 which still gets very slow by Stonehenge you could stop off at the Cartgate rest area on the Yeovil A3088 junction, this has grass and picnic benches, loos and a cafe. You'll find the entrance and exit on the roundabout.There's fuel a short distance further on.

Going on a Thursday and should pass stonehenge about 11am the latest if all goes to plan, so hopefully the traffic will be slow but moving.

Be sure to follow the club's directions on the final approach, Milo. All will be well if you approach from Honiton.

Thanks for the tip. I have already found out the hard way about following the clubs route instead of the sat nav.
Earlier this year I forgot turn the sat nav off before we approached Normanhurst Court site in Sussex. The cars sat nav took us down a road that then became a single track road that was getting decidedly narrower the further we went. Lucky for me there was a bend in the road and a gate to a field set back a bit . It was great fun turning around a 24 ft caravan attached to a freelander. Very aware now of looking up the clubs route before we travel.

You'll see what I mean when you drive south from the site - solo - towards Sidmouth.
There is/was a good eatery at the crossroads where you turn down to the site. Enjoy your trip.

As you are travelling on Thursday and passing Bristol late morning, you should be clear of bottlenecks between bristol and weston. There are services both sides of Bristol so the dogs can have a stretch.
