Insurance Claim on Renewal, or not ?
Short story is that I had careless parking ding and scratch in the rear door of a hire car (No names, but you can probably guess as I am a CMHC member)
A £100 cash job to repair by a man in a van with a tent, it cost me best part of £500 by the time I got the bill back from the car rental company. Fortunately, I had ihire insurance that paid the bulk of the bill.
My question is;
Do I have to declare this as a claim or accident when I renew my car insurance ?
If it were my car, my insurance company, I would say yes.
If it were my car, a cash in hand to the van man, I would say no
Not my car, but my insurance so not sure which way on that !!

If the question is 'Have you had an accident in the past 12 months?' the answer is 'Yes'. There is no doubt you have had an accident and therefore your name is now in the data base of insurance claims that insurance companies share.
It always pays to be honest with insurance companies because if you are not it is likely to come back and bite you.

Thanks for your replies.
Adds insult to injury !
After being fleeced for a small parking ding caused by a passenger door being opened onto the hire car, and small enough not to be noticed until being pointed out by the hire company, turns into a £500 accident claim.
Not a happy camper !
Told the wife we should have toad (sic) our own transport.
