B96 entitlement

Hi, I fall under the restricted licence for towing having passed my test after 1997.

I have recently read Practical Caravan magazine where a reader sent a letter in regarding something called B96 entitlement. Apparently there is no driving test element to this, you just have to show your are competent to use a trailer through a training course. This apparently pushes your weight limit up to 4250kg rather than the 3500kg I am limited to.

I am struggling to find any information or courses for this and wondered if the club were any wiser on this?

You are right. That's what the B96 covers and it is true that it doesn't require a proper driving test to get one, only attendance at an approved training course. However, although there are provisions in UK legislation for the B96 licence, the DVLA chose not to implement this option and one can only obtain such a licence on the Continent.
