Free Bus Travel in Wales
During the summer the Welsh Government have made free bus travel available to everyone on Saturday & Sundays, You could go to Cardiff from Brecon free, tour Anglesey from the two club sites there plus many more. Add in the non cost of parking and it could make a club site fee affordable during the peak period. I understand everyone is eligible. Until May 2018. its just another way of fritting our hard paid taxes on trivia. You know what politics is like, go for the margins but ignore the basics. Look on the Welsh Government web site or BBC Wales for full details.

Perhaps another way of looking at it is that it helps keep services fuller than they would normally be so helps maintain those services that might otherwise not operate without this scheme and subsidy ? Also an advantage to those who might not be able to afford a day out but can.

We occasionally use our bus passes in England. When we do, every other person getting on has a bus pass and no money passes to the driver. How long can we expect this to continue I wonder?

AS far as I am aware English bus passes are not accepted in Wales or Scotland.

Free to everyone on "T" buses Saturday & Sunday. Its odd the Welsh Govmt moan every day that the Barnet formula is detrimental to Wales but they still co me up with an idea for free bus passes to even non Welsh Tax payers. Don't worry about our Health Service, Schools etc. plenty of monies for trivia.

As far as I am aware this free bus service applies only to the Traws Cambria long distance buses mainly between north and west Wales and Cardiff. It is not available on local services nor on services in Gwent (south east) or Pembrokeshire (far west). At least I can use my bus pass any where in Wales but not England or Scotland.

We are often in Hereford where of course we can use our (English) bus passes. Many buses go to destinations in Wales, or travel through Wales en-route to a destination in England. As you only present your pass on entry to the bus, I assume that any journey starting in England is free, but if you get off in Wales you would have to pay for the return journey. Does anyone know anything to the contrary?? (An interesting case is a trip to Hay-on-Wye, where it is only a short walk back into England to catch the return bus

Before bus passes went "nationwide"they were only valid in the county of issue and were valid on any "local" service starting in ones own county into another, but not the return service, and I understand that is now the same going into the neighbouring"country ,

My Welsh bus pass allows me to travel free to Hereford and return back home free. I cannot change buses in Hereford to travel further in England for free. So probably you could travel from Hereford to Hay, Brecon, Abergavenny or Monmouth and return with your English pass.

As always in politics the details is in the small print. You can use the Sat/Sunday pass from Brecon to Cardiff, or Swansea. Likewise to Hay, but not sure I it allows through to Hereford. Our OAP passes does and return from Hereferd provided the destination stop is in Wales. The T buses also run from Carmarthem through Cardigan to Aberystwyth with changes for further north, ie Dolgellau. Porthmadog, Caernarfon and Bangor, plus at stops in between. You will need to download time tables to see if a suitable return time is available.

Some people are never happy, and why bring politics into it? I think it's a good idea, I can get onto the T4 in Pontypridd and travel to Cardiff and back for nothing, which by the time you add fuel and parking can save anything from £15 - £25 depending on how long and where you park. We've already got free prescriptions, what more do people want?
