SWMBO used to work for the local council's refuse dept. All the bin wagons were autos due to the stop start nature of the task. It was cheaper than replacing clutches every week.

Meanwhile in the UK manual cars outsell auto.

And in the USA they are begging Mazda CX-5 to bring the manual version to them in all trims.

Because 'cars' include many 'also rans' .....  many of the premium brands & top spec models of many  mainstream manufactures come as auto as standard with three pedals as a no cost option.

Cant imagine the Americans of all people would 'beg' for a manual of any car, let alone a wanna-be SUV

Automatic transmission for towing.  Does lead to very polarised opinions, on one side there are the people that hate automatics and on the other side there are those that have actually driven one.

Most people who switch from a manual to an automatic for towing wonder why they didn't do it years ago.

Autos are ok, I tow with one.

But I still prefer a manual and only have an auto because I'm too old now to use a manual.

I think some people dislike auto's because having never driven one they only have others peoples opinions of them.

This normally stems in my experience form the bloke down the pub or a friend saying "I remember my old Dad had an auto Cortina, it was awful" or words to that effect.

The thing is, they have come a long way since the days of the purely hydraulically controlled ones like the Borg-Warner 35. BL's awful AP, to name a few. I've not driven a modern CVT but I do hope they have changed as well.

We've just had an automatic loan car for six weeks so were able to give it a good test.

The last auto we drove was decades ago and things have definitely changed but our personal preference remains for manual and we were glad to see the back of the loan car.

The important thing is to be happy with your vehicle

      >The electrically deployed tow ball is great.<

Yes it is great inbuilt 13 pin socket breakaway cable eye,

BUT be aware that pins 10-11 for the fridge are NOT wired up.

Incorrect statement. The wiring for the fridge IS wired and works fine on mine. I would suggest that If your's isn't then the socket is faulty and you should have a warranty claim.

The Euro 13 pin sockets and plugs should meet strict EU specifications and approvals. I don't think Skoda would be able to fit them and sell them unless they fitted the EU specification.

Its well documented that 13 pin sockets are frequently only only wired for road lighting by many German  cars manufacturers unless you firmly tell them otherwise.

Well things may have changed, certainly for the factory fit Tiguan towbar, as the brochure makes it very clear that the 13 pin socket is fully wired for the leisure battery and fridge.

Try driving a Mazda cx-5 auto, you may wish you had bought one, the auto is a torque converter type, which is extremely easy to use in manual mod.

Didn't you eventually buy a Tiguan.

What changed your mind about it not being big enough ?
