porch awnings for caravans with fixed beds
We have been considering changing our caravan for one with a fixed bed, but whilst on site we have noticed that there does not appear to be enough room between the front window and door to fit our isabelle porch awning.

My caravan has a fixed bed (Swift Challenger 570) and i also have an Isabella porch awning One side of the awning does fit between the door and the front window leaving plenty of room to open the window without obstruction. i'm not sure of the actual gap between the door and the window but im guessing its about 250 - 300mm.I know it looks a bit tight on the photo below but both window and door are accessible without any problem.

What has a "fixed bed" to do with an awning?

Don't do awnings, but I assume door position. On our Cadiz with fixed singles, there is enough room for the door to open and be fixed back, plus a little bit more. So I suppose there might be room to fit one, but not fasten the door back. On our old Abbey with a fixed double, the door opened the other way, but there was only about 10cm between the door frame and window. So a porch awning would have gone across it.

We have a Swift Challenger 565 and have an Isabella Minor porch awning that quite easily fits between the door and front side window, it does go across the side rear window but that is my choice.
We were told when we, bought the Porch Awning that it wasn't a good fit but that was for us to decide.
I, don't follow about the fixed bed bit but perhaps I'm missing something, with the Isabella Minor the door being fastened back, isn't a problem at all.

We have an Isabella Magnum and whilst tight it does fit between the door and window. The main problem is that the awning light fitting extends into this space and means that its not possible to get a tight fit at the top. It can be a bit awkward to always get the position where it would suit you but often window position gives you little choice.
dmiller555/notite-I think its because fixed bed vans tend to have the door further forward to accommodate the bed. We had this on both a Bailey and a Lunar.

Window position on the side of the caravan.
I have just had this problem. My Bradcot Air Aspire 260 fitted my Coachman Amara with off side fixed bed perfectly. I now have an Elddis Avante with fixed bed on the Near side which means there is a widow there as well. I now have no other option other than to have the awning as far forward as possible, set in the narrow space between the front window and door. the other side has to cover half the rear window.
Not ideal, but the awning is only just over a year old and cost me over £700 so I will stick with it for now
