The generators are diesel, very large and very noisy and lots of them!
Last year we had a choice between ehu and non ehu. The club has every right to make a profit but could have chosen to encourage good environmental practices and lessen the costs for those who choose not to waste energy.

I understand this years national had fewer places available? when we visited all the units we noticed were connected to the EHU,and the near generator to some friends we visited did not sound very noisy as it seemed to be in a sound deadening cabinet?and there was no smoke

You are effectively denying people choice the supplying of electric has a cost. Whether that cost represents value for money is a personal assessment. I am not suggesting and not one single post on here has suggested that there shouldn't be an EHU option for those that want it or think that they need it ,need it.

I think noisy is a perception and of what your usual enviroment is,as is noted by reviews about sites,where some think noisy others do not, we live in an area that we can at times think is noisy ,yet some friends who stay with us at times,(when visiting London) say how quiet it is ,and they live in a little village near Newark

NickH I agree with you on this. It is so convenient to have electricity on site and, as you suggest, provided it is used appropriately. Following this discussion it is clear that the committee has stated that next year's National will continue to be all EHU, consequently members will make their own choice as to whether or not they attend. Not sure about the overall number of outfits that were at Sandringham however there was an attendance list in the Souvenir Programme given to those who were at the National, this may shed some light on the numbers present.

No JVB, when I say noisy I mean noisy. My working life was in a very noisy manufacturing environment and I think I know what noise is. I also live in a farming area, plenty of noise there. So if I could choose a slightly quieter camping area even at a big event I'd be happy.

Back in 2012 I questioned the cost of EHU at the National here on this discussion forum. It was then £6p.n. The reason I questioned it was because with the same equipment used at the temporary Olympic games site the cost was £2 less p.n. at £4. Someone from the events committee replied that the difference was due to the cost of getting the equipment from the Club's store to site. I accepted this explanation as perfectly resonable. Given that transportation cost will be different for each National, the costs are unlikely to be the same every year but I cannot see them being less than £4 p.n. and it is still a great shame the choice to go without will no longer be available.
Unfortunately with the upgrade of the site the conversation about the costs is no longer available.

You could always use the C&CC Sandringham site next door, much more room on there.
