Thetford blade failed
The blade on the loo has more or less failed (it will open enough for water to exit). The cassette is ok when not in the locker and the blade won't budge with or without the cassette. Has anyone else had this problem - I am hoping it's not terminal. I can't remember the model but it's electronic flush and the cassette is dark grey with orange trim. Any help would be appreciated.

We had a problem with the blade mechanism failing, in our case stuck open, we were in France at the time so had to purchase a new tank. Had we been at home, I would have done some research as to what the problem was and whether it was fixable, in our case it did prove terminal.
The blade is part of the bottom tank.
Thetford have a good website with repair instructions, did you take a look at it? It may indicate whether the problem is fixable.
Sounds like a model C250, same as ours.
Is it the operating handle on the toilet itself that is jammed?

Perhaps the blade handle got moved a bit while the casette was out and just needs puting back in the right place again with the casette out ?

I had the same problem recently whole in France i.e. Blade would only open part way.
if you take the cassette out and look in the opening you will see, on the right side near the back, the part which operates the blade. I gripped this and moved it to the right . It appeared to be on a ratchet. Moved it 2 or 3 clicks, replaced the cassette and all ok. It's still ok 4 weeks later. Not easy to explain but quite straight forward.

Bad terminology on my part I initially thought it was the blade but that worked ok outside the locker. It's the handle that operates the blade that will only move a fraction so I will take a closer look tomorrow now I am safely home. And look a the Thetford site. C250 sounds right thank you everyone. Funnily enough I was recommending CT to my neighbours today as a great place to get help. The are club members but hadn't discovered CT

My feeling is that the cassette has been inserted and did not line up with the handle mechanism on the user side of the toilet. Maybe pushed in and has forced the mechanism round and caused tha jam.
if you look ay the top of the cassette, you can see / operate the flap by turning the knob.
This knob, should line up with a " n " shaped reciver, which is fixed to handle on the user side.
A gentle exploration of the workings and a bit of brute force should fix things !!

Pippah - I had a similar problem with the handle sticking and all it was, was that there was a thin plastic trim which runs along the length of the slot where the handle moves and this had split, jamming the handle when one attempted to move it. Not sure what the point of this trim is -doesn't seem to serve any useful purpose, so I cut if off and it's worked fine ever since.

I suspect Tony has it right - I think I hadn't pushed it right back in the locker properly after emptying. I have had a brief look but will try and recruit someone inside to wriggle the handle or move the caravan so it isn't so close to the wall! Both probably! A thorough cleaning of the locker is on the cards too - oh Joy!

Thank you all so much - job done and money saved! I will be extra careful in future about returning the cassette properly and not half an inch out! My very kind handy man took directions from all these posts and me pointing etc etc as I was unable to unscrew the cog bit - and it all went back together ok. Again many thanks - what would we do without CT? Spend a lot of time and money getting it fixed!

The slide on our Cassette Toilet has jammed so the blade only opens very narrowly. Not sure how to resolve the problem
