My words to hubs of "Don't buy anything expensive"
So we went to the Cotswold Show on Saturday and as we entered the gates my words to hubby were "Don't buy anything expensive!" Within an hour we were on the Ssang Yong stand with him putting a deposit down for a brand new Rexton SE 4x4! Eeek! List price normally £22,495 the offer was for £19k with free tow bar if you are a member of the caravan club (thank you Caravan Club) we wanted something that would tow a twin axle if we made the jump, currently towing a Bailey Pegusus Rimini with a tired 57 plate Honda CRV! The Ssang Yong, of which I have yet to learn to spell without looking it up tows 3.5 tonnes but can I part with my beloved Honda CRV!? Just wondered if anyone else had bought one, and how they were getting on! It looks fab and I will no longer at 6ft tall whack my head on the rear boot lid because it actually lifts above my head!

Looks good, but do not take the towing capability of 3.5 tonnes too literally! Your kerbweight is around 2.1 tonnes I think, so you should be OK weightwise for a twin axle, but what is the power of the engine?
We recently swapped our XC90 which was 186 hp for a 3litre diesel Touareg which is 262 hp, and I have really noticed the difference on hills.
We are towing a twin axle which weighs 1900kg max

Maximum power (PS/rpm) 178/4000
Maximum torque (Nm/rpm) 400/1400-28000 -
So less than our XC90.
Be careful on steep hills if you buy a heavy van.
Steep hills are not that common in UK, at least not on roads where you would think to tow a caravan. We were recently in the Black Forest, where steep hills and hairpins are common and I was very glad of the higher power of the Touareg!
