Red light on Alko system

Hi everyone and am new to this forum. My wife and I have taken up caravanning for the first time in our late 60's and are loving the freedom it gives us.  Recently whilst returning from a trip I noticed that the green Alco light had turned Red so I drove home slowly and as the van was due a service I asked the engineer to check it - he indicated a fault with the car so I got the electrics sorted and the electrician connected the caravan and the Alko kicked in but the light remained red. He suggested it would recalibrate if I towed it forward which I did later but it still remains red. The engineer then said the computer may have developed a fault which would need to be cleared and to do this I would need to leave the car connected to the van for 12 hours. So my question is has anyone else had this problem and where would you suggest I go to get it fixed as off on a trip soon and need to get it resolved.

    Hi, MH, I suggest you call Alko Technical Dept, I remember a similar problem to yours being highlighted in the Alko write up but I'm not exactly sure what the advise was although I remember it mentioning something about keeping the van hooked up to the towing vehicle for a long period of time.

    There will no doubt be someone on this forum that will perhaps know the answer.

    I have`nt actually experienced it but if you have an electrical fault this will be logged by the Alko system the memory becomes"full". The engineer is correct in that the first step is to connect to the car and leave for 12 hours. If it does not clear the van can be safely towed but ATC will not be active so best bet is to take it to an ALKO service centre where they can clear the memory, all assuming there is no further problem.     Manhole, You simply cannot accept the fault!  The Red light signifies a significant fault which indicates that your stability programme is not working. That in turn may invalidate your insurance!

    Insist that your dealer takes action to resolve the problem under your warranty, and failing that contact ALCO.  But you must not accept the problem and carry on!
