The Club magazine has plenty of adverts from companies wanting to buy caravans. As I may well be selling my Lunar Clubman at the end of autumn, has anyone experience of using these companies? Do they offer a realistic price?

Short answer as far as I know - NO they don't!  But good luck!  I have called a couple of them in the past and it was a waste of time.  Worth a try though.

All the people I have seen commenting on them say they got a very low offer but I cannot see that they can do anything but that. They have to pay to collect the caravan and then sell it on for a profit so a big discount on the value is needed to stay in business. The upside is it is quick and simple and should be secure where as trying to sell privately can be a hassle with con men and time wasters causing problems.

You might also try your local dealer although how keen they are will depend on the level of stock they have at the time but you could do a little better than the advertisers.

It depends on how you view the situation as to how you proceed.

I think they pay bottom book price but it's a simple way of selling. You have to weigh it up against the hassle and possible cost of selling by other methods.

Several years ago, after a two week family holiday in Scotland when it rained non stop all the time, when I got home, in a fit of pique, I rang several of the companies in the back of the magazine and eventually one of the guys turned up to view my van......

He had a briefcase with him absolutely full of £20 notes.........

He made me a derisory offer which I could not negotiate up, but sick of the sight of the van and vowing that future family holidays would be "proper" holidays (aeroplane/hotel) I took the cash......

Needless to say within a year we had bought another van......!!

a slightly different approach is to use a broker like motorhomedepot.com

for a fee (dont know how big...) they come to your home, photgraph the van, place an advert in various places including ebay and their own website, stating your location for the vehicle where it can be viewed.

they seem to have done pretty well in a short time judging by the number of their ads i see.

might get a better price this way, even after expenses.

I sold my last van via a local delear acting as a broker. No risk to me, he valetted, advertised, displayed the van and handle the finance side. I paid a fixed sum (£500)  and the van sold within a month. Mi also made a lot more than I was offered in part exchange.  I would definitely go down this route again.
