No special tyres required, but I believe you need a super long Allen key to remove the band for tyre removal. How/if they work is debatable, they live in the central well of a rim to supposedly prevent sudden deflation of the wheel due to side ways force on the tyre that could push the tyre into the central well. However IMHO they fix a problem that no longer exists due to the safety hump on modern rims. There are many though that still believe in them.

FYI smile    Also worth making a note of, if the tyre needs changing the tyre fitter ideally needs the special tool to compress the tyre on the rim to get the band off to remove the old tyre.  It can be done without this but is very difficult.

The operative phrase is not how they work but rather if they work.  We did have them fitted to one van and it took the tyre fitter forever to remove them so the tyre cold be changed.

I have never seen any independent evidence that they work. They might but I haven't seen any proper evidence.

When you read evidence from Tyron and their adherents just ask yourself this. Are the claim's any more valid than the following true statement but false conclusion

I had shredded wheat for breakfast and I haven't been struck by lightening.  Therefore the obvious conclusion is shredded wheat protects you against lightening.

I think I would risk the lightening rather than shredded wheat for breakfast.

As far as l am aware l was given no tool remove the band, mind you the last owners removed most things from the van l was shocked to see we still had a cooker, microwave and fridge eh! eh!, the van came with an Atex slime line TV that was removed said it was bust, probably on eBay. When l sold my Madrid was told the TV had to be part of the deal. l will ask the people l use for tyres if they have the said tool.

Thanks for the info greatly appreciated

The tools are as far as I know extras and purchased separately.  I certainly bought the long Allen key.

Ours came with the long Allen key, as they did on the previous van.

Most tyre fitters cannot handle the Tyrons, even if you give them the key, or just do not want to be bothered,  our dealer uses one who can.  I believe some of the mobile tyre fitters are set up to handle them.

When we need new tyres we order them on  line and get them delivered  to our dealer.

Our current Sterling came with a TV, it was pretty rubbishy, we bought a better one.  The old one still works, sort of, it will go with the van,  but the next owners will be very disappointed with it!

My Bailey cave with an Avtex TV worth £300, that's why the dealer requested it. This coachman we have just bought came with Avtex slim line with its own aerial booster within the Television. They tell me it works inconjuction with the Avtex  wip Areail l have on the van.

I believe the Avtex whip aerial has it's own booster ? could be wrong.

From what I can work out, I also think the factory fitted Avtex TV's are very low budget models and not the hi spec ones advertised.

As I said in another thread my TV was missing in my Elddis and the Dealer has given me a Vision Plus with built in Satellite/Freeview receiver and DVD.
