Possessions Removed From Pitch
Motorhomes, Has anyone experienced possessions removed from pitch while refilling with water or out and about?.
This happened to us on a recent stay at a Club Site.

Not heard of this happening. The club do recommend the use of a sign. Perhaps putting one next to your pitch number when you arrive & taking it with you on leaving for good would cover anytime you are off the pitch for whatever reason. Have seen various bought & home made ones left on pitches.

Suggest you get a new pitch marker board asap, Chrystal. Has your memory not been jogged before?

If a pitch looks deserted with no pitch marker I could see that happening have never left one without a pitch marker so have never had that experience. If items were not stolen looks like a misunderstanding to me theft would be a whole different ball game. Did you mention it to wardens moving an item or to for maintenance would be acceptable to me, if they don’t look after the site they would soon get untidy and that needs a bit of give and take from us all

Come on Chrystal, bit more information please? Nothing stolen, just moved.....to side of pitch (e.g. for Wardens to have a tidy) or moved onto another pitch? Neither poses a problem, the Wardens will know which is your chosen pitch as you will have called back at reception to give them information.
We have only ever had one item stolen, a very old water container whilst on a CL. They left us the cap though!

No excuse for that IMO, I hope you told the warden?
I too would have thought the warden would have pointed out to them that the pitch was in fact already taken by a MH and requested they move.
I have however heard of at least one other occasion fairly recently where this has happened and the culprits refused to move.
Not sure what the warden can do in that case.

We are recently back from a 2 month tour in Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Austria, where we saw many MHs, none of them had a MH using the pitch sign, they just left their table and chairs or similar on the pitch if they went out for any reason. This seems an accepted convention all over Europe, and normally here too.
However there are obviously some very mean and selfish people around. If they just move things off a pitch, they could just as easily move the pitch in use sign and claim it was not in place.

Chrystal, Motorhome next to me left chairs, table, and bits and pieces in a simple pop up tent while they went out for the day. Would that solve your problem in future? They wouldn't take down a tent, would they?

No, didn't think you made it up, but couldn't understand why you didn't say someone had moved onto your pitch in your opening post. If it was on a Club Site, then the Wardens would know which pitch you are on, they have a board usually in reception, in case they need to contact someone urgently. So in this case, possibly someone didn't let reception know which pitch they had taken? There are signs up on Club Sites (and in fact most types of sites we have used) suggesting MHs booked for more than one night leave a pitch marker on their chosen pitch. Just common sense really, we don't always leave stuff out, but leave a pitch marker.
So how did your experience end?

If you did not use a a m/van u seing this pitch sign maybe the the arrival thought it was, as happens,some one "reserving " said pitch for a later arrival, and they moved your "bits" as on club sites its first come for a pitch and "saving"of pitches is not etiquette

I'm a bit confused about how this happened. At just about every club site we've been to, when you tell the wardens which pitch you're on you get some sort of numbered token. It might be a fob for the entry barrier or a key for the toilets etc. In which case the wardens would have known your pitch was taken and said so to the newcomers.
Perhaps it would be helpful to know which club site this was and whether you'd checked in with the wardens and given them your pitch number. How was it resolved? I agree with those who say how annoying such an occurrence is - it shouldn't happen in any case.

On a different but slightly related issue regarding pitch numbers......
Recently, at Henley, when we arrived the warden highlighted for us which pitches away from the (noisy) road were free as there are several cul-de-sacs on the site. out of the 3 pitches we considered, 2 were already in use.
When OH returned 10 minutes later to report our pitch number and get the numbered barrier card, she told the warden, who sighed and replied that thesepeople must have moved from other pitches and had not notified him of the fact.
Later, we saw him come and have a word with the offenders.
We also noticed tables and chairs appearing on vacated quiet pitches, later followed by a caravan or MH.
So musical pitches happen not only at aTintagel!

Perhaps motor caravans that leave the site should take all their clobber with them and free the pitch for maintainance and any new arrivals. Then when they return, they choose a pitch from those available like any new arrival.

We have done this sometimes on CLs and private sites......gives a different perspective, and we aren't too precious about where we sleep anyway!

of course youre right Kjell...what a selfish attitude in our now fully inclusive club....
how about we get the warden to tow Nav's caravan to a completely different pitch while he's out for the day 'so as to free the pitch for maintenance and new arrivals'
if providing sufficient amusement, perhaps it could be extended to all vans on site, where we can then enjoy a game of hunt the caravan...
yeah, that will work....
