caravan porch awnings

Hi I have a question or two about porch awnings that is the sort that fit to the guide rail of the caravan.

1 Can you travel with the awning fitted in the guide rail?

2 Is it legal to travel with the awning attached?

As my porch awning is 3.9 metres it would be so much easier to travel with it attached but as I'm fairly new to all of this I await any sound advice on this.

yea fit casters to all uprights, stretch the tension tight and pray that pavement is clear of pedestrians.

allow a bit extra clearance on bends.

oh yea and use steel poles not aluminium.

    Also it's June not April.

I have to admit you're in for a lot of banter with a question like that but as much as I'd like to join in I won't laughing

All I can think of is that perhaps you mean a retractable awning like the one in the attached photo? If so, then yes, you can drive with on of these (retracted).

If not, then as long as you're on a dual carriageway for your entire journey then you should be ok wink

(oops, sorry, I joined in the banter) laughing

Heethers the OP stated that the awning fitted in the awning guide rails and the store awnings you refer to fix to the side of vehicle in a self contained unit.

i don't know of one that you can leave in the guide rails and somehow roll up safely.

But I am not that up to date with tech, perhaps there is something on the market as MM seems to imply.

The Fiamma Caravanstore, as referred to by Heethers does not fix to the side of the van, it rolls up into a zipped bag which is attached to an awning bead and this  slides into the awning rail.

I too would assume this is the type the OP is asking about .

We have a 3.6m one and have been travelling with it in the awning rail for 10 years now.

These have been available for about 20 years at least, so not exactly a new idea!

Sorry that as a newcomer you have had this mickey taking by some ignorant members directed at you. (sign of the times i'm afraid). As some of the more enlightened members have pointed out it seems likely that you are referring  to a Caravanstore bag canopy which is designed to be left in situ.

It would be helpful if you could confirm if this is the case.

Hi , if it is indeed the Caravanstore type sun canopy in the bag , its perfectly safe to travel with it in situation .

Just ensure bag is zipped correctly , there should be at least 3 Velcro straps inside the bag to secure the canopy roll itself .

You should have a metal stop/plug in the awning rail either end to stop movement  .👍
