Worrying Salesmen
Maybe its because I am a female and go shopping for cars on my own - but I am sooo fed up with slick salesmen misrepresenting towing figures!
I dropped in the Mitsubishi dealer in Lincoln to pick up a part the other day and Salesman went off to locate someone for me - so I had a look over the ASX - I have an Outlander and it is a dream car although possibly a tiny bit large for my needs, The ASX looked great so when the salesman returned I asked about the towing figures - he quoted something more than I understood the Outlander can tow so I queried it - he picks up the brochure and says "they must have changed the figures" yeah right!!!!! He then says he is too busy to look at my Outlander - as a client has just turned up - and expects me to come back tomorrow - NOT on Sunday am I driving 20 odd miles to speak to someone who doesn't know their figures!
The Club Matching service does not approve the ASX as suitable for my van - "unless I am a seasoned tower" But the Outlander gets the thumbs up. I am a seasoned tower but I still don't want a van that is too heavy for the car! Been there and done that when I was sold a Fabia as suitable for my van. The Fabia was powerful enough but it was even vulnerable to lorry sucking in on the motorway without the caravan with the caravan it was scary. The Octavia was fine - and the Octavia Scout even better but the Outlander out tows Skoda - but of course it out prices it too its in a different class.

I read the first word in the title as a verb and though, "What a good idea!".

It's not just car salesmen that are at fault.
When we first decided to get a caravan I had a Honda Accord Tourer automatic, although it had a max towing capacity of 1100kg the 'van salesman said that a van with a MTPLM of 1350kg he showed us 'would be fine because it's a diesel'.
This was a salesman at a well established retailer!
He printed out some guff that showed it would be OK, I pointed out the max towing limit of the car was lower that the max van weight but he still didn't get it...
