Awning or not

I would not read to much into the likes trellis. I am forever catching it when I swipe down, as holding onto the right side of the pad my thumb often catches it. Sometimes I can be bothered to unlike, sometimes not. It needs to open an OK / Cancel box, not just to automatically like it.
So they may not really be likes at all.

just to let you know my like above was real Steve

I no longer have an awning but do have a roll out canopy. I don't tow a car. I book what is available which often dictates which type of pitch I book. However, quite often those non awning pitches are in good positions/places on site, in my opinion, and not always that much smaller in size although the spacing between pitches can be. When booking an awning pitch I always ask if I can choose from both on arrival and quite frequently, when sites are not totally fully booked, that option has been made available to me. I'll then choose the best pitch on arrival for my needs and often that's of the non awning type.

notwithstanding all the replies re choice etc.....(all valid stuff)....there have also been many comments citing poor choice or location and (sometimes) smaller size regarding non-awning pitches.
to that end, these posters obviously rate these as a 'notch down' on a std awning pitch and, as so, i agree with some that there should definitely be a small price differential providing a small incentive to use a smaller non awaning pitch, if this suts your touring requirements.
as it is, pretty much everyone chooses an awninp pitch by default, 'just in case', which skews the real desire/need of appropriate pitch type.
for £2 a day reduction, i would be 'encouraged' to use a non awning pitch as this is really all we need with just one box on a pitch, and i can use my wind out there providing spacing is maintained.....so, i dont 'need' an awning pitch to enjoy space to deploy our wind out.
however, if the club charges the same, ill choose an awning pitch like everyone else 'just in case'

Whilst agreeing with almost everything said so far (except the OP obviously..!!) I too choose an "awning pitch" on most sites by default as I sometimes have a trailer with me for my bike and like everyone else I'm paying my pitch fee so why wouldn't I want the most space for the money? Until they reduce the prices of smaller pitches I can't see that changing....
However, there are always exceptions.......to get the best pitches at some sites (Bunree & Garlieston are two that spring to mind, I'm sure there are others) you need to book a non awning pitch.....
I suppose it's time the club adapted to selling the best pitches for more money, like the airlines do with seats and hotels do with rooms with a view....

BB a good post in places but you say:

just wondering what definition of many you are using, I've counted 2 definite out of 42 (now 43 with this one) how is that many? There has also been two posts which say that non awning pitches are actually better than awning. And one person's poor choice is anothers...
I can't in my view see a need for reduction in price. Are you just wishing a reduction in price to suit, or rather 'encourage' as you put it to your own needs? Just asking.
Oh and winkey winkey

Corners, IMV. obviously different to yours as usual, there are regular posts citing the reasons i quoted for choosing an awning pitch, so, over time, id say there have been 'very many comments' in this vein.....and you can choose your own measuring yardstick
perhaps, (in your view) you see no reason to reduce prices of non-awning pitches....no issue with that, of course, however.i beg to differ.
i think the 'best pitches' (perceived or actual) should attract a small premium......or apply a small reduction to the pitches folk avoid (non-awning), to acheive the same result.
we have different views on this, no problem with that at all, mines just based on a fair price for a fair pitch, nothing to do with 'my own needs' thanks

At Cirencester, where all pitches are awning, there are a few HS awning pitches that are a lot larger than the others, you can get your car alongside rather than in front. We always choose one of these if available. I would certainly be prepared to pay a small premium to secure one.
However, at most sites the differences are not as extreme, so I would only be paying the charge to secure a pitch I could deploy my roll out on, or not have to park the car in front of the van door. That's purely down to the 6 m rule, not wether one pitch is larger than the other. So I am not sure an extra charge is justified.

Sorry BB I can only reply to the post you made in this thread which implied by your choice of words that you meant replies in this thread
quote: notwithstanding all the replies re choice etc.....(all valid stuff)....there have also been many comments citing poor choice or location and (sometimes) smaller size regarding non-awning pitches
You should have made it very clear that you were referring to post made throughout CT (which of course is impossible to disprove or not, was that your intention?) A cynical person would suggest you're changing the goalposts but we know you better than that
The problem is (as Steve alludes to) is who will decide what are the 'best pitches' (perceived or actual) as you put it?
I wouldn't have the hubris to say. What may be a best pitch for me may be the complete opposite for others. there really can be no accounting for taste in pitches and who would say yes that pitch is better than this? you perhaps? Are your choices better than anyone else? You talk of a fair pitch, what does this mean? In my view all club pitches are fit for purpose and a fair price is charged. Surly if people didn't think the charges are fair they wouldn't be so popular?
No of course its not what you want

BB & CS......I wouldn't want to get in the way of your sparring as it provides hours of amusement ..........
but I suspect the warden on any site knows which are the "best" ie most popular pitches.....it is not unusual on some sites to see people moving pitches during their stay to a "better" pitch as they become available, many sites will have a notice up saying if you wish to move speak to the warden blah blah, certainly on some C &CC sites we have stayed on...
The Warden could help Grimstead towers (the majority of staff there have probably never visited the sites ) identify the "premium" pitches......
In fact the warden could then be on some sort of commision for upselling the better pitches......just like in the commercial world.....

What constitutes the "best" pitch for any particular member will be changing over time as their needs and wants vary. For example, when the children were young being fairly close to the ablutions block and the play area was important and now I try to get as far from those (and the dog area) as possible.
I dont think it would be possible to select the overall "best" pitches on any site and then charge a premium for their use. Which probably means it will be introduced before the end of the year!

This best pitch idea is great.
The pitches that seem to create an undignified scramble on the sites we've stayed at are ones we wouldn't be interested in. Don't care about views or sun, don't want to be on the main route, near reception or the toilet block, avoid the MH service point at all costs.
So the quiet dark corner nobody wants should be cheaper? Perfect

I just wonder what constitutes that best pitch, maybe this notion could change with age, or weather, or satelite 'view', or panorama, or proximity to toilets, or dog walk, service point, play ground, in shade or sun etc. One man's perfect pitch may be another's poison. Maybe just charge the same!

could not have put it better myself.

but those dark corners might be the best pitch for vampires, or shy folk, or those wanting to keep privacy for some nefarious or illicit activity like working on site

Yes we always pitch away from toilets and service points but talking to others they love being next to them. Luckily we all like different part of a site.

When anyone else sees "content removed" does it drive them nutty with frustrated nosiness ? Or is it just me ? Lol /
