just wondering where to stop over on the way down to St Agnes caravan site in Cornwall from North Yorkshire. We have stopped at Tewkesbury but would prefer somewhere else.

Three come to mind at Cheltenham - Briarfields , Stansby Touring Park, or the Racecourse site  - the first adult only, the second open to all, the third a Club site. But there must be lots of CLs too.

    Why stop?

It's easily do-able in a day these days, with all motorways and dual carriageways.

We have travelled from Yotkhire to Cornwall many times and our target arrival time was 10:30am

We have gone to St Ives for the last 2 years from near Kingstone Upon Hull, we set off about  02.00 hrs, with a couple of stops to eat and put fuel in the car, we arrived about 15.00 hrs

Try Malvern, easy to reach from the M5.  Still gives you a good start to get through Bristol fairly early. About the same travelling time to St Agnes as from Tewkesbury.

A bit before Tewkesbury there is a CL called Woodlands Farm near Worcester, very easy to get to off the M5 ( can't just remember which junction now). Has a loo but no shower, very friendly owners, good for an overnight stop. Hop back onto the M5 early next morning. We've used it to break journeys northwards. Hope that's useful! smile

I think the most important consideration when you stop is the distance to the nearest Nero's!

Another option if you want to get a flying start, are the Motorway Services at Gloucester. These have dedicated caravan parking, well away from the HGV's and a reasonable distance from the M5 itself. The food available from the onsite farm shop and food outlets is first class, if not cheap. The cost is £23 with a £5 food voucher, so £18 if you make use of it. They are probably the only services I would consider staying at. Although having said that, personally I would go for Cheltenham race course site and spend a bit longer getting going. It also has the advantage of much better availability than Tewkesbury, if you are wanting a Friday or Saturday in the next month.

Not sure where you are starting from Charlie, and you could be an hour away from start of M1 given how large Yorkshire is! No idea on your time of travel either. Using a Club Site as an overnight stop will mean arriving after 12 noon/1pm and before 8 pm for all sites. There are some lovely CLs just off the M5/A30 corridor, some basic, some with lots of facilities, and much more accommodating regarding arrival times with prior notice. If you can hang on further than Tewkesbury for a couple of hours, then we can highly recommend Exeter Racecourse for stopping. Easy access, good facilities. And very cheap. Not as far down is the Minnows, near Tiverton.

Not knowing your route, hard to recommend a CL, but we have used lots down the years and never been disappointed.

Ian, you live close to M1, and only a tad higher up the county than us. If Charlie lives up in the very North, then they could be looking at another two hours on their journey, even with dual carriageways. I have done home to Penzance in 5 hours solo, but never towing, or with dogs, or with children. It's a long journey with a van in tow, especially if you encounter any problems. Given that the OP has asked for overnight stops, then they have indicated their choice of journey and fancy a break. Not criticising you in any way, just not jumping to conclusions that they have easy access to motorways.smile

Not forgetting the small club site at Wellington, Cadeside, which is well placed for a stop over and is just minutes from the M5. smile

Recently travelled down to Lydford from Scotland, stopping at Blackshaw Moor, Leek. After that  traffic wasn't too bad to other side of Birmingham but it was slow

On way back we decided to head straight to Kendal - OMG - Lydford to Kendal 9 hours - Birmingham to Manchester was an easy 2.5/3hrs due to  roadworks and volume of traffic

ps can highly recommend Lydford site (ok its just outside Cornwall) but pretty close - Lands end only 85 miles

I have a feeling Cadeside doesn't take dogs - or am I wrong - as I will be looking for a place to break my journey to Witheridge in a week or so.  As has been said though there are lots of CLs en route.

I now can't find the site that I thought I had ruled out for dogs being unwelcome - but there are so many choices out there.

From South Yorkshire we always target a CL somewhere around Weston Super Mare - by that time I've had enough of UK motorways!

Charlie, what about aome where like Harbury Fields near Leamington?  We've not stayed there, but it's on my list of places to go to.

If you want to travel a bit further there is Chew Valley at Bath?  I think both Harbury and Chew Valley are Affiliated Sites (from memory)

Cadeside does take dogs, Pippah. It has a fair length dog walk around the perimeter of the storage compound.

It's a normal club site but non-facility and only has 16 pitches. It's frequently fully booked.

Wow that is a long journey. Around 400 miles. So you averaged just over 30 mph. ? That is slow imho. Even allowing for a few stops. Unless u stopped for 4-5 hours.
