TV signal finder

Hi all - been looking on ebay at tv signal finders some are listed as such and others listed as satellite, the units look identical but the ones listed for TV are more expensive whats the difference would appreciate comments from users of both thanks regards bob

    We used one similar to     <<this>>      when we had a status directional rather than the useless omni directional we have now... Worked fine.

    Hi, if you just need to know where the nearest transmitter is I downloaded an app to my phone called Freepoint Uk it has listed most campsites in the country or a post code search facility that shows you which way the strongest signal is for TV and satellite that might help you.

    I downloaded a free app on my phone - UK aerial alignment. Never had an issue getting a signal when it's used. Turn it on and it piloints the direction you need to aim aerial at.

    I have downloaded 'antenna mate', also shows whether you need to point vertical or horizontal. (Also look where everyone else is pointing their aerial!)

    I use Antenna Aligner, spot on every time.

    As for looking which direction everybody else is pointing I am sure people just point them all over the place to confuse me😂

    I believe the apps that you can download alll cost something. Don't know how accurate they are.

    We have a signal finder. It gives a rough idea of direction, but not all that accurate. It has about 8 lights that can light up to tell you when the aeriel is pointing the right way. Rarely do we get more than one illuminated.

    We use UK aerial alignment as stated before. It was free and shoes the direction to point the aerial. It was free 😉

    I bought a TV signal finder as recommended by the Caravan Club, found it to be absolutely useless so tune manually by using the cardinal points of the compass. Although it may take a little time, it works!!

    App called Freepoint UK    superb and free. It was designed by a camc member and incorporates satellite.

    What do the 'satellites' do to help, when finding a TV signal?

    I'm a curtain twitcher surprised and I derive great pleasure in watching some folk spending hours running to and fro trying to adjust there sat dish aerials.  I always have music playing, courtesy of I-pod and docking station, a drink to hand and feel totally relaxed whilst watching others frantically working hard for their pleasure tongue-outlaughing

    With all the activity some of these people must be super fitwink

    The software applications that give direction, range, and polarisation do not take into account the terrain or the density of trees along the line between transmitter and reciever. Some times the better signal is from a transmitter further away.

    The devices that work on signal strength will also show up a signal that is bouncing off something such as a building or nearby hill.
