To be honest we have had good welcome experiences both at home and abroad, guess a lot of it comes down to the type of person you are. Haven't been to that many different club sites but the welcome from the wardens has always been friendly and efficient.

After a bad experience years ago I have avoided the Tewkesbury site - how silly of me! I dropped in en route last week and had a great welcome and suggestion of a pitch near the exit (for elderly dog). The pitch had bad muddy patch due to selfish awning user. A quick ask of the warden who came to inspect and I had permission to put caravan over the mud as it was an end pitch and not compromising fire regs. So helpful and so easy! I have also had good experiences over there once I learnt to avoid arriving during lunch breaks!

I think the Wild campers amongst us can answer that-no booking, no paying before or after their stay, natures larder at their disposal. Now that's how to do it

David, with respect, the last sentence of your OP made it inevitable that the thread would drift!
The discussion regarding pitch reservations has been had many times, again with predictable results. It seems to be the way this forum staggers on.

David, that's rather rude isn't it?
I'm reallynot bothered about "flexible" systems - if I'm not happy with a site's arrangements I'll look elsewhere. Next week we're off to Ross Park in Devon where we'll be allocated a pitch - doesn't bother me in the slightest
As for your last sentence, I don't quiteunderstand the point you're trying to make. You posted a comment, I replied - is that not what the forum's designed for?

We're off on Saturday arrival time anytime between 8-8. Park up and warden will call for money. Leaving same. Possible extension should we require, we won't as next site booked, as they don't book out all touring pitches. Never been but sounds like lovely people judging by our conversation. Self owned site

I aint sitting in front of you
Maybe if you were (or did) you could spell it correctly? Assuming of course that any self respecting teacher would ever teach such a word
(The usage of ain't is a perennial subject of controversy in English. Ain't is commonly used by many speakers in oral or informal settings, especially in certain regions and dialects. Its usage is often highly stigmatized, and it may be used as a marker of socio-economic or regional status or education level.) I'm making no comment about this statement just passing on perceived wisdom on the use of ain't
Anyway back on topic:
I really can't see how such a flexible system could ever apply to club sites where sites are fullish and the demand for pitches often exceeds supply. Also on club sites I've been on apart from a very friendly welcome I'm always given a site plan with free pitches marked by the warden with a highlighter.

exactly, its easy to be flexible when you are empty and only looking after the booking for one site. Also you get the whole site to choose from not just 10 pitches!! One of the down sides of people booking specific pitches is it limits the pitch availability for everyone else as in this case, only 10 pitches to choose from.
The post was written in such a way to provoke responses such as we have seen on here to open the there v here debate.
I have no axe to grind either way but accept that what we do in the UK is different to other countries some things are better here some there but that is how it is so just accept it and enjoy your holiday wherever it is.

Good point, Michael - we all enjoy (or should enjoy) our holidays in our own ways. I'm always interested to hear how others enjoy their time differently to myself but find it rather tiresome to have it constantly implied that one way is any better than another.

Yes entirely agree.
Unless and until there is a massive massive increase in UK sites, both non club and club, (but more so in the club) we cannot emulate the systems in place 'over there' and to make comparisons.
As you say we have what we have.

does it just come with experiance?
No but spelling does come with experience

It seems odd to me that, in the UK there is this requirement to book a pitch in advance (even out of peak season) and yet the main Club sites cannot apparantly handle bookings for specific pitches - too complicated for them.
In Europe, we wouldn't dream of booking a site.....and yet, if we did, it is usually perfectly possible to book a specific pitch.

As a newbie here are the posts always so personal?
I thought we shared a common interest in Caravanning so why is there so much bitching? What does it matter where we caravan or how we spell any particular word?
Will I come back to this discussion?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Welcome to CT Claver mostly it's good but there are some that seek confrontation I'm afraid.

Claver no they are not usually so personal there are some very friendly and helpful topics. Folks why not be more friendly towards each other it is not every welcoming to new Members who join as Claver has. It is also not a good advert for Club Together either.

Hi everyone,
Owing to the number of reports from this thread, I'll be closing it as it seems to have gone off topic and has become argumentative.
Please can I remind you to refer to the Community Guidelines before posting.
