Hi there. We usually hire a car if we go far from home in motorhome and CC get discount. I cannot for the life of me find the relevant page now on the CC site. Its as if they want to keep it hidden. Can anyone help please.

Click menu at top right  on this page ( 3 bars) scroll down to offers, go to member offers and scroll down to Enterprise.

As a non-member, I always think it strange that you can not even  view the member offers  ...... to see if they might be tempting enough to encourage you to join surprised

I'd advise checking alternatives which we found to be cheaper and with lower excesses/deposits.

Wow! What an expensive way to holiday on camp sies.

As an aside, I've always thought that the Enterprise way of taking you back to their depot to be rather strange. Why not just bring the car to you??

It's not expensive at all Ian and it's choice.

Have you not come across the distance selling regs? That surprises me.

The guy who comes out has to get back to the office, or Enterprise have to run two cars out, to bring him/ her back. Hire starts when the forms are completed at the office.

A warning to the unwary,  we found the hard way when we returned a car that had a parking ding slightly larger than their ding circle. (It looked as if someone had parked next to our car and opened their door into our hire car)

Enterprise took the excess of £1000 straight off our card,  well it was £800 because they already had £200 as a deposited.  It seems that the T's n c's allow Enterprise to keep the Excess for 90 days.

The story seems to be, Enterprise will get the repair done and charge the cost of repair, admin charges etc from £1000 and pay back the balance at their discretion, if there is any, within the 90 days.

The ding happened about three weeks ago, and still unable to get any assistance as to when the matter will be resolved.

Been a happy customer up to now, having used them several times,  not so happy now. Lesson learnt to fully check the car before return and see if any minor damage can be rectified before return.

    Tony

Is there an option to take out an "anti ding" insurance or does this just add too much to the bill?

I think 'fully' covered roughly doubles the bill with Enterprise, David. Even then there is still a small excess. Incidentally, the CAMC discount only applies to the basic hire cost and not to the insurance cost.

That's why I advise shopping around. We found a local independent hirer to be far better.

As I said.......what an expensive way to go on holiday.

Putting aside the massive cost, there is the inconvenience of waiting for someone to take you to a depot somewhere, and then finding a way back at the end of the day, coupled with the possibility of £1000 bill for a minor car park ding.......!

One expensive, worrying and inconvenient day out.

Plus......their adverts are extremely annoying and they alone would prevent me from using this company.

Nope, my experience with the independent hirer was nothing like that. Not expensive, not inconvenient at all and with only £100 at risk. What's to worry about?

Still, it's a good job it doesn't affect you in the least, Ian.

    It is indeed, Tinners.

You clearly have far more money than I, to waste. Enjoy! wink

Oh, you can't beat money, Ian, and I do enjoy it. What's a mere £100 on the price of a holiday? Ah, I forgot, I'm not from Yorkshire.laughing

Waste? No, wasting it would have been buying a car to tow, plus a trailer or A-frame, and paying ferry fares for it.

I think it is rather sad, once again, that they way someone wants to spend their money and their holiday time is criticised!

You, or one, works for a lot of years and build up a good pension and savings. If you then decide that you want to spend it on a MH and hire car (and the time in getting getting it) why should that be criticised labelled as 'expensive' and 'worrying'. Then spending money as someone sees fit is called a waste? What?

I've worry less about the hire cars I've had than I do my own cars. What was that saying said by some F1 driver (whose names escapes me) - the fastest car in world is a hire car

better think again about that cruise you were thinking of if you're looking after the pennies Ianwink

After all why waste so much money when you could have a canal boat or a rowing boat? All that worry about what to wear you mentioned? And then of course have you seen Titanic?

    Apologies for a late reply.

From memory ; anti ding was about £5 per day, additional driver £10 per day,  a cancellation and rehire if you wanted to put a driver on halfway through a weeks hire.

BTW. Just had the invoice in for the excess charges, not even sure if Enterprise and I are discussing the same car, let alone damage !

    Interesting days ahead.

We hire from enterprise each year when we go to Godrevy in the motorhome and use it in "caravan" mode.  We now tend to hire via our AA membership as you get a free additional driver.

Always get car hire excess insurance which has to be booked in advance  - costs just £18 for a week or you can get annual policies.  There are plenty of providers if you google "car hire excess insurance".  Car hire staff always look crestfallen when you decline the extras saying you've already got excess insurance.  Note if you do have a claim the car hire company will charge your credit card and you have to claim it back, but paying for the car hire equivalent will double the rental cost
