Cornwall and Devon sites
hi everyone. We've been caravaning for 15 years but never been to Cornwall or Devon so this year were doing 7 nights at each. Can anyone recommend sites that are dog friendly .. Preferably not too many kids.. Around south Cornwall ( poss st Ives etc) and south Devon . Either CC sites or CL sites or private sites.. It will be last week August first week September . Looking forward to your replies Thanks..

St Ives is West Cornwall.
That's too big a question, WG, as there are hundreds and hundreds of sites. Start with the club sites. Godrevy Park near Hayle isn't far from St Ives and is good for dogs.
Oh, oh, I see when you're going. I'd avoid all of Devon and Cornwall at that time. Sorry.

Hello weekend gypsy , there will be children with it being the school hols, but we went down to devon and cornwall in may , we used a ths at porth beach caravan site which was £13 per night , thats near newquay which isnt quite as far down south as st ives , we visited st ives in the car , weve been to porth a few times now its a lovely site altho not a club one
we then travelled to sidmouth to oakdown which is one of my favourite sites, its next to the donkey sanctuary where you can walk your dog (dog friendly) and you can visit beautifull sidmouth and lyme regis , sadly it rained every day but thats british weather for you hope you enjoy yourself..... Mmm the cornish pasty shop at st ives ...... The cream teas at sidmouth& lyme regis...... wots not to enjoy? Regards mrs black orchid:))

Modbury CAMC site is extremely dog friendly with a very large dog walk area that is bigger than a full sized football pitch, there site is used generally by adults with a few children. The location is well placed to visit Cornwall, Devon, Dorset. The site is a hidden gem and you will be surprised how nice it is....

Inland sites in Devon will have fewer people and fewer children. The area I know best is the Tavistock, Lydford, Okehampton sweep around Dartmoor. A quick Google search will give you half a dozen suitable sites with easy access to walking with or without dogs on Dartmoor. Dartmoor View at Whiddon Down, Lydford Caravan Park, Langstone Manor and Harford Bridge, both near Tavistock, all stand out.
But St Ives in August? Well perhaps not !

I can recommend Venn Farm cl in Devon. We stayed a few years ago and found it perfect, spoilt us for a while as it was the best cl we had been to. Adult only, hard standing, their own private woodland next door. We don't have a dog but ideal for dogs.

Club's Marazion site might suit you, although no facilities. Doesn't get too many children, great location as you have North and South Coast on your doorstep, easy access to whole of Lands End and Lizard Peninsulas, and a huge very dog friendly beach at Porth Kidney Sands near Hayle. Parts of Marazion beach (Long Rock) area are dog friendly and there are lots of others if you don't mind a bit of a walk. Dog walks direct from site are nice. If you steer clear of the big Cornish hotspots, such as Looe, Falmouth etc... it's easier with dogs and beaches. Avoid Newquay. Coastal scenery is nice, but town is a dump, awful.
Sorry, but don't know Devon as well, unless you fancy Dartmoor!

At the time you are intending to go the first week is still the school holidays. The second week is when the older people arrive in droves, to avoid the school hols. We here in Devon call it the silly season and either stop indoors or try to get away from it all on our own hols. My point is, if that is when you intend to come then you should book somewhere quickly as everywhere will be booked up and you will have little choice.

I can recommend Globe Vale, just outside Redruth.
You can take the dog and there are plenty of full serviced hardstandings. Paul has just converted a field to full serviced hardstandings, so as this 'expansion' is fairly new, I think you would probably be able to get a pitch OK. Paul and Louise have a great little site here and are really helpful and welcoming folk.
The site is very central and it is easy to get to most places - fairly close to the A30, but no road noise. Good views over to St Agnes. Close to supermarkets (less than 10 min to Tescos) and close to the Camping/Caravan retailer and spares at Scorrier (Penrose Caravans).
There is no swimming pool on site but there is a small bar open during the main season. We visit this site several times a year and is certainly our site of choice for Cornwall.
