Back in France

We’ve not been back to France in our motorhome since Cath took ill in April 2016. A year into her treatment, Cath persuaded her ‘Specialist’ to let her extend one of her test dates to six weeks instead of four. Three days later, armed with an extra stash of pills and anti-biotics, we sailed for France.

 Our first overnight stop was at the ever-delightful municipal site at Val de Vesle, just south of Reims.

Our second stop was at Beaune.

 

We were heading for a ‘holiday camp’ near Ruoms in the Ardeche, where we met up with our grandsons(and their mum & dad!) who were having a long weekend in a mobilhome. We had a great time together despite Cath not being allowed to use public swimming pools. ( How do the French turn a Thursday holiday into a 4 day break?)

 We parted, they to their home in the Alps, and us to a surprise rendezvous with our chums from Suffolk, Steve and Kitty, at a site in St Remy de Provence. Lots of catch up and a trip into town for lunch.

 

Our next stop was Cavalaire sur Mer and Camping de la Baie: one of our favourites- it’s our 10th time here.

 

It’s a fairly level walk to the promenade and the port, so Cath can manage taking her time. Her treatment and her condition mean that she has to stay covered and avoid the hot sun. She can manage a paddle though and an ice cream.



Last night we had a surprise when our chums from Yorkshire, Jeanne and Graham, turned up for a few nights on their way to Port Grimaud.

 

We move on 13Km on Thursday to our all-time favourite site at Saint Clair where Cath hopes to have a ‘float’ in the sea.

    Lovely to hear you're enjoying a trip further afield to places you like. Good read and lovely photos,  you really have cracked that aspect 😉. Long may it continue.

    Thank you all for the nice comments and good wishes. We're now on our favourite campsite at Saint Clair, just 100 metres from the little promenade and beach. Cath had her first  'float' in the sea yesterday with her 'noodle'.

    Glad to read that you have managed to travel abroad and to revisit some of your favourite haunts.  After a few years touring we are lingering longer at places where we feel at home.  We spent most of May on your 'favourite' site (our third visit) and half expect to return in years to come, besides we owe friends a lunch!  As good a reason as any, I guess.

    Now holed up in Gascony at Camping La Brouquere for a few weeks which is equally enjoyable though contrasting location and ambience.

    Wishing you both happy travelling for the rest of your trip.

    Looks wonderful.

    We've only managed one trip to France now 3 plus years ago. Vowed we'd be back but firstly time was the issue with work, now an elderly parent requiring some help, plus a daughter living in NZ and arrival of granddaughters in NZ. So now issue is financial as well . One day well do an extended tour. Living in the southeast we can get over/under the channel for a similar cost of a tour of the northern areas of the UK, but still needs planning and time! As Delboy said to Rodney this time next year............

    Just be careful or good will to all men (and women) will fly out of the window soon.....the sea looks beautiful, please send some nice weather our way too. wink

    Lovely, hope you're still having a great time.  We've just returned from a similar trip which included Beaune, a week in St. Remy, a few days at St Clair, Vallon, Puy on Velay and the canal du Nivernais.   We were unable to get away last year due to illness so like you we were very pleased to get to France this year.  Best wishes

    Oops, that should read 'unable to get away last summer' - we used our cancelled eurotunnel booking to visit Christmas markets in Alsace for a week
