This is our 1st ever season of touring and we're loving it.

One thing that has surprised me is that we've hardly used C&MC sites, preferring commercials and CL's. We've done 8 trips so far since March & only once for 1 night have we used a club site. Its surprised me how many quality Commercial sites there are and often in great locations. Next week we're staying at a C&MC site which we're looking forward to.

So how about you guys? What type of sites do you mainly use? What percentage of your visits are to club sites , commercials, CL's & of course the other club. Or do you more "wild camp"

Varies, we like solitude and quiet, so Club Sites are out in Summer. CLs, small private sites, we go back to the odd Club Site in Winter months. There were only four outfits at Bolton Abbey when we stayed early December last year......marvellous! Got busier towards Xmas though, but still quiet. Done some lovely tours using a nice mix of places to stay. Must admit I quite fancy finding a hidden wild camp spot at times. Purely for the peace and quiet, get away from it all experience.

In 45 years we have gone almost full circle. Started with commercial sites, then mostly club sites, started rallying which became dominant for 25 years and now back to 85% club sites with the very occasional commercial site and rally. We have now even joined the other club to allow us to use sites in particular locations that we want to visit and CAMC does not have a suitable site for us.

When we started 10 years ago it was always club sites. We also belong to C&CC. But over the last couple of years moving towards commercial and CL or CS. We have booked a week on Club site at but was startled by the price compared to three commercial sites were using as part of the tour, but it seems to be best for what we want to do. Certainly not in school holidays but now so many price bands! We have done a few rallies over the years as well.

Previously we have booked club sites and not thought about the cost but this year that is definitely changing.

Last year it was about two thirds Club Sites (both clubs) and a third Commercial sites. The selection of a site is based more on its location than anything else and how easy it is to get to other visitor opportunities like towns and cities by either walking or public transport.

Mostly CLs with the odd commercial. Club sites are too expensive so those we have visited have been either the no-facs £14 jobbies or low season.

generally check offerings in the area we are visiting....usually look at cc/CCC/CS/CL/THS/commercials....will probably choose that with best access, but am wary of ever spiralling costs.

with more than one site offering similar 'location' we would probably choose a non-club or commercial site, favouring the 'simple' no frills approach as CY above.

for anyone not yet trying a THS site,i thoroughly recommend these informal, no booking sites at around £8-10 a night...smile

with (more than) half of our touring nights overseas, we tend to favour ACSI or aires (i guess i can say this as this thread is in 'chat')wink

I think about 50/50.  Most CL's are, of course, brilliant.

I guess the choice is based on where we want to tour, and what site availability is on the dates we go.

We normally use club sites but over the last bank holiday I wanted to take my granddaughter away but left it too late.

i did find a CS site with another caravan site company who had a space available but with no EHU.

i thought it would be fun to go 'Wild camping' even though I have a 100 watt sonar panel.

i was very pleasantly surprised with the site.

just a small well kept field in the middle of nowhere with only 2 other vans and a tent.

water and a toilet was available but not much else. But what else do you need from a site.

much cycling and dog walking was had in a beautiful, peaceful area, so much so, granddaughter wants to go back.

    100% non EHU CLs.

Club sites are just not my barrow- I'll only ever use a CMHC site if I have a voucher just for a night en route to my beautiful CLs- uncluttered, quiet and easy to book.

We caravan for at least 200 nights a year! 35 nights on CMC sites. 35 on CLs, 70 nights in France, and the rest on commercial sites.

I have been away 72 nights so far this year and have not spent a single night on a CMS site. I have had 10nights on CLs and 6 on a C&CC site, all the rest have been on commercial sites. My average nightly cost works out at £12.45.

Tend to use CL's, but mainly C&CC Temporary Holiday Sites, no booking, just go off when we want and stay as long as we want up to 12 nights come home, then off again all off grid of course and cheap.

Tend to use CCC sites when our senior persons discount is available, otherwise CC sites depending upon location.
