Sprite alpine 2 - 2016 faulty tyresj
I purchased a new van last year however during the first service by an independent service provider he reported that both tyres were defective with the side walls cracking.
I've reported the issue to Rydedale leisure in Leicestershire from whom I purchased the van however they are not prepared to do anything until their claim with the tyre manufacturer has been agreed / settled, surely this isn't correct as my contract is with them not the tyre manufacturer?
I've also requested several times a written statement as to the road worthiness of the van on these tyres which they don't seem to want to issue.
This is going to jeopardise my holiday plans and may have to replace them myself. Do you have any advice as to how I can take this further?
Regards
David

Have you checked the production date when the tyres were made? look for a code on the tyre wall i.e. 2014, these would have been produced week 20 year 2014, you could have old tyres on a new van!

I would replace the tyres pronto, keeping the receipt, and keep on at Ryedale for the cost of those replacements. Ask Trading Standards for advice, or consult the Caravan Club legal team.
I certainly wouldn't tow the caravan anywhere with tyres with cracked sidewalls and a certificate of roadworthiness will be of no help. If one of those tyres blows on a motorway (for instance) at best it will damage the caravan and at worst you could cause a potentially life-threatening major accident. Just google caravan tyre blowout and look at 'Images' for some scary warnings about what might happen.1 -
You are quite right aupduck, your contract is with Ryedale and not the tyre manufacturer. Please do contact the Club's free legal team on 01206 846073 for further advice on your rights under the contract.
