My first question would be to ask the wardens for a late stay either on your pitch or in a holding area, there is quite a lot of space on this site, if that failed I would check on the morning of departure with Wight link that if you arrived early whether you could get on an earlier ferry they usually try to accommodate you if they are not busy. Failing that you could try the Wootton steam railway parking area that is quite large, goggle maps is a good starting point. PO334RE is the post code, hope this helps.

Speak with the warders and explain your situation, they may allow you to park up somewhere or even stay late on pitch depending on how busy they are.
It is probably an hour at least to the port via Ryde.
IOW is very tight for caravans and MH's and not too many places to park (easier in a MH). You may find a layby or there are many car parks at on of the many chines so maybe use google to pre-drive your route and look for somewhere.

It doesn't take long to get to Fishbourne, perhaps 30 mins, but you can't normally arrive at the port more than an hour before sailing time.
Personally, I would have chosen an earlier crossing if possible but the answer is to speak to the very helpful wardens at Southlands and ask for a late departure although it's unlikely you'll be able to arrange it in advance.

There is a parking area just inside the entrance to Southland ( on the right as you enter ) which is large enough to take 3 or 4 car & caravan combos parked at an angle. If you can't stay a little longer on your pitch, ask if you could park up here for an hour or two. Failing that, the fishguard ferry terminal has a very large marshalling area & I'm pretty sure if you turn up early, Wightlink will get you away before 4pm.
The first time we went to IOW we booked the 11am sailing, arrived at the redfunnel terminal 10mins to 10am & were happily allowed onto the earlier ferry.

Try changing your ferry time to suit the published departure time for the site.
Alternatively, book and pay for another night, so that you can leave as late as you wish.
You could, perhaps, ask ourself why you didn't do this at the time of booking.

Thank you for all your helpful advice on the matter you have given my wife and i plenty to think about . Can i just clarify IanH we are booked on the 4pm ferry in order to get a 40% off the original price, before 4pm it was rather expensive hence the cheaper option. Once my wife realised the issue i thought it would be wise to ask for any suggestions or advice/tips from other people. IanH i find your comment rather offish I'm sure at some point in your life you have made the odd cock up here and there. any hows like i say thank you very much for all your advice

In view of the saving I would even be prepared to pay an extra night for pitch and one adult if necessary and leave to suit ferry. After all I used to do that on sites on a Sunday in order to stay till 8pm or later and make the most of a weekend if weather was good.

,I use Red Funnel.Good sites ,good ferry times.Book through the site for a better discount and extra days/nights at no extra !! .

I do believe I gave a good suggestion above (and it's been repeated by others).
Frankly, I don't believe that you didn't realise that you had to leave site before 4pm when you booked tbe ferry......I think you just went for the cheap cossing and blow the rest.
So to repeat........you clearly need to either re-book the ferry for the day before, or book another night on site so that you can leave at a time to suit the crossing that you booked.

Enjoy your trip, Stu. We were there last month.

I wouldn't recommend turning up too early at the Wightlink terminal. They are a bit grumpy and you will probably be charged a small fortune upgrade.
You could go past the wightlink turn off and visit Quarr Abbey. If they have the extra parking open you'll be fine. They are about 20 mins away from the terminal.

I guess that you are not yet on the island so you have the opportunity to speak nicely to the ferry terminal staff on arrival about this quandry.
