Good question wye, when you find out please do share it with us all
I have tried using the vacuum to clear the fluff and dust from ours (its a black pleated net) the large one at the front of the van isn't too bad as you have room to work but the small one above the kitchen area is a right pain. I did eventually get it clean by using a steamer to blow through the dirt, however I would not advise doing this as the net is now a bit floppy I did manage to tighten it up a bit by blowing it dry with my hairdryer on full hot power.

Having just spent a few hours cleaning mine I can relate to this. You are most likely going to need a screwdriver. Mine was a crosshead. You should have a screw in each corner. Remove them (they may be hidden by bungs, one of my two was and one wasn't) and drop the cover away from the roof. This first bit is the one with the sliding blind which you need to take care not to release the tension as I found out sadly. The next bit to unscrew is the nylon screen bit which seems to collect most things by design. These items once removed should clean up nicely in the bath with a bit of washing up liquid.
I never got round to cleaning the very top (outside) that's next on my list.
Note:- removing the bungs was not that easy. I had to leaver them out which wasn't much fun. Be a little careful with the nylon screen. They become brittle as they get older.
Good luck
