help on best route and time to travel
Can anyone give me advice on the best route to take from Dukinfield in Cheshire to the battle Normanhurst club site near Hastings. Also would we be better traveling overnight and are there any early morning stopping places we could park up at

It’s about 280 miles. 6 or 7 hours? M6, M42 round Birmingham, M40, M25 and A 21.
Set off around 5:00am and arrive around mid-day.
If you’re up on time you could stop at Clacket Lane Service Area just before you get off the M25. You’ll be past the worst of the traffic by then.
I think you can expect congestion around Birmingham and at M40/M25 junction at any time of the day or night, but you’ll get through OK with patience. Take your time and enjoy it.

There are major works on the A21 between Tonbridge and Pembury to dual it that can have a lot of delays where 2 lanes go into 1 and with construction traffic crossing the road. Allow 30 minutes at least...
There are a couple of NT properties on the way, Batemans and Bodiam Castle you can stop at to pass a few hours..

Ted - that's a long old haul in one go, the M6 in particular is likely to be pretty slow going if our experience of a few weeks back is anything to go by. Had you considered stopping off at a CL on the way to break the journey? If so I'm sure there'd be plenty of suggestions for you to consider.

According to MS Autoroute its 275 miles and that is M6 (take advantage of the Clubs cheap deal by using M6 Toll) M1 to M25 going clockwise. I have always found using the northern route tends to have less hold-ups because to don't get involved in Heathrow and Gatwick airport traffic.
