Reporting an accident

Unfortunately, I had a person drive into the side of my caravan whilst on the M1 this morning. Have tried to contact the number in my Super 5Cs cover booklet (0345 300 4641), but was a bit surprised to discover that it is not possible to report the incidence of the accident until 9am on Monday morning.  Do accidents not happen at weekends?

No personal injuries, but I'm hoping that the Club will ride to the rescue and get things sorted out prior to my holiday in six weeks.

Glad there were no personal injuries. As you say, pretty p*** poor that there's not a 24 hour number to ring ..... they charge enough for their insurance.

The usual blurb from most insurance providers is-'we are here for you 365 days a year' that back up sells it for me. What you've found peg does not sell it for mefrown bad customer care.

Usually there is a dedicated number to ring to report accidents and it's manned 24/7. How can an insurance company arrange recovery when necessary if they can't even be told of the incident?

I cannot generalise but according to my Mayday Cover they will recover and the charge will be picked up later by my insurance company.

    Pegwr33,

you need to go to: https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/globalassets/pdfs/insurance/general-claim-form.pdf

and download the claim form.  Instructions are on the form but basically you need to get a quote for repair and send it with the completed form. Good luck with getting it repaired in six weeks. Mine needed panels and took eight months!

Hi Easy, my caravan and car were damaged in France. Phoned the car insurance and they were really helpful, took all the details, asked if I needed assistance and arranged for me to see a repairer on my return. Phoned Devitts claim line to be told "go to the Club's website and download the form, get a quote and send it to us"

Why is it that caravan repairs go in slow motion?

Thanks all for the helpful tips. Once the process was begun, Devitt and the loss adjusters swung into action pretty rapidly and I'm now booked in for the body repairs to be done before we go on holiday.  However, the repairer has told me that it is often the case that caravan manufacturers often take an age to dispatch the necessary parts. Perhaps I'm fortunate, I have a Lunar and they are regarded as being one of the best at this but once again, the caravan manufacturers after sales is shown to be wanting. They are very keen at Shows and Dealer Forecourts to take your money for a new van, but less eager to follow up with availability of spare parts. Perhaps the CAMC could do a piece on this in the monthly magazine to see just how bad across the industry it is.

Hi Easy T. The phone number is buried within the documents - not at all easy to find - it should be much more prominent and at the front of all documentation in much the same way as my car insurance documents.
