Water pump

I have a 1993 Vanroyce and water pump does not appear to be working.  It is making a noise but no water seems to be coming through the pump and definitely nothing through the taps,  In view of the age of the van I do not want to spend too much on a new pump if it is something else that is likely to be wrong.  It has an on board water tank which does have a small leak so tank may have become empty without my noticing whilst I had the van on charge after winter but I would have thought that if I had burnt out pump it would not make any noise at all.   Any ideas anyone.

Where are you currently trying to draw the water from? The onboard tank, or outside aqua roll. I have never had one, but don't they have to be switched over too. Also have you closed the outside drain valve from the water heater. We have forgotten this more than once, then wondered why no water was coming out of the taps.😂

I thought I'd replied yesterday.  We too don't have an on-board water tank, but we have had instances of water not coming through the taps, though you can hear the pump.  Over the years this has been due to a variety of things.

Initially it was due to us not using the proper 'order' for the pump which is

    Fill Aquaroll (or onboard tank)
    Insert pump into Aquaroll
Insert pump into caravan (or onboard tank)
Open hot tap to fill water heater
    Turn pump on
Turn hot tap off when water runs freely
    Open cold tap
Turn cold tap off when water runs freely

Another time it was because we hadn't turned off the valve on the water heater and the water was running outside!

Yet another time it was just due to a faulty connection and once the pump was pushed more firmly into the socket it started to work properly.

Another time the pump itself was faulty and so was replaced.

I would fill your onboard tank to capacity, then try again, and report back if it still isn't working.

Hi, If you are using the submersible type pump that sits in the aquaroll  then maybe there could be a slight air lock in the system.

We had problems like this after the van had not been used for a while.

With the aquaroll full of water, place the submersible pump into the water, then with the pump running keep lifting and lowering the pump in the water (quite vigorously). This should clear the air lock. This used to work for me.

Another problem could be that although the submersible pump sounds as if it is working, the small impeller on the end maybe stuck. The easiest way to check this is to connect the pump to the caravan but do not put it in the aquaroll. Turn the pump upside down so you can see the small impeller.(If there is a blue mesh cover on the end of the pump, remove it. It will easily pop off) Then ask someone to open a tap for a few seconds.  If the impeller turns as soon as the pump begins to run every thing is fine, but if the pump runs and the impeller does not turn, then it maybe time to invest in a new pump. Running the pump without water for a few seconds will not harm it.

    Hope the above helps
