Route to Ayr from south
Hello all, I am shortly going to be towing my average size single axle van up to Ayr. The obvious route would appear to be M6/A74(M) but I quite fancy leaving the motorway network at Gretna and taking the A75 ,A76 and A70. Do any members have experience of this route? Speed is not an issue, it's just that the non motorway option looks as if it may be more scenic !Any comments gratefully received. Mick Rumble

If it's what you fancy, just do it. We all used the A and B roads before motorways appeared.

Hi Mick, agree with willbee. We came back from England and headed along the A75 to New England Bay. It took us longer than expected, but the road was fine and fairly quiet. When we left the site heading home we headed up towards Ayr, again it was fine. A nice drive. Cheers, Alex.

Have done the route with a twin axle and no problems .
Actually also took the tourist route which is the A75 then A713 jus past Castle Douglas which goes past Loch Ken ....a few smaller villages and speed humps but a pretty route with no issues ...
If you do go this way consider stopping at Loch Ken Holiday park en-route .............
