We are due to go to this site next month and I wonder if any members who have stayed there very recently can advise us if the ongoing problems with the showers have been sorted yet.

I ask because the last review was 2nd May and there is still time to make alternative provision.

Best to phone the site and ask for truly up to date info.

I would agree with DJG. However, I fear it unlikely. They were not very good when we visited 2 years ago. However, it is a very nice site in an excellent location. It does depend on how long you are going for, but if only a few days on route to Snowdonia as was our case, I would still go. Certainly when we went they were useable, although to date they were the poorest I have come across. They would not stop us visiting again for a 2/3 day stop over. However, I might be tempted to lug the water and use the one in the van,

Thank you. We are also en-route to Snowdonia. We have planned to spend a week there but not if the showers are out of order. We don't want to pay club prices for a sub-standard service.

Perhaps someone can allay my fears. I wouldn't wish to put the Wardens in a difficult position by having to ask.

We stayed there at the end of Feb/beginning of March. I didn't know they'd been out of action. They were perfectly useable when we stayed .... maybe a bit of modernisation is required, but nothing that would stop me from going there again.

And I never take notice of reviews ....wink

We too were there end of Feb early March, the toilet block facilities, whilst dated, were clean and functioned well. The pitches both grass and hard standing looked tired, the weather was not the best however. There was quite a bit of tree felling going on. Indeed within the Castle parkland several large oak trees had been blown down, one right on top of a car. Would visit again but probably not for more than a long weekend.

There's so much to do and see in the area that it's worth tolerating slightly outdated shower facilities.

Chirk Castle, Erddig, Llangollen with all the attractions, Oswestry. There's mining, engineering and rail heritage throughout the area

    We love Chirk.

Thank you all for your comments, I'm thinking of chancing it for all the above reasons. I just hate being ripped off with top prices and broken facilities when touring.

As regular winter users of Last Margaret- the showers are sub standard. Coud piy t up with being dated if there was an update due or we were advised. The water pressure is very poor and most times its a trickle. Premium prices being  charged despite   this. No longer use the site as there are better commercials in the Oswestry area.  Also be aware of the large wood factory very b near and if the wind is wrong can be noisy 24 hrs.

We were thinking about visiting this site in June but have read some of the comments about the showers not being great. Thought we might meet up with some friends who are booked in for a week in June but might choose another site.

If you are a party of 2 adults then I can recommend a small Independent site about 10 minute drive to Chirk.

It's called Rosedale Caravan Park, on the outskirts of Overton on Dee. You'll pay £12 per night plus £1 for a porch awning. It's an adult only site and very peaceful. Free showers and hot water.

Mind you it might not exist as one CT member has accused me of inventing it!wink

Thanks once again for all your replies. The canal is one of the main reasons for going although it sounds like once we are there we will find lots more.

Very useful info on showers, Wi Fi, and factory noise.

I will do a full review and let you know how we get on. We travel on to Llanberis for a further week and then to Shawsmead continuing our Welsh Tour.

Just to add my two penneth; The site is one of the more attractive on the network with a choice of hardstanding or grass pitches at this time of year.  There are actually areas of grass rather than the regimented rows of gravel.

Yes, the showers are poor but they're spotlessly clean.

I don't find the noise from the factory in any way intrusive; neither is the aroma of the chocolate from 'the other factory'.  smile

The site is extremely handy for catching the train for a pleasant day in Chester.

I thought the facilities I used on site were superb.  Then again I always the van shower and toilet. We only live about 9 miles away and used for a shake down trip to test everything worked on electric.  One thing about the site, I honestly don't think I have been anywhere with as many Rabbits, so the grass was cropped to about the same height as the baize on a snooker table

It is probably catching the train in other direction to Shrewsbury which is nice City as well as going to Chester.

We last used the site for 8 days at the beginning of January, so out of season.  We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, we enjoy walking and went in every direction from the site.  The showers, whilst having low pressure, were perfectly adequate for our needs, always clean.  And how long do you spend in a shower anyway?  A very small part of each day (in our case anyway!) the rest of the time we're out to do what we went for.  It's in a lovely location, with lots of birdlife on the pitch to watch (we always put feeders up in winter) and I wouldn't let the shower issue stop me if I wanted to go there.

Nobody decries the area. Its superb for walking, its the quality of the club site that's the issue. It took years to make the access road beara ble and it looks like its gong to be years to get a decent toilet block. There are very good commercials and Cls much better value locally. But then the club would rather waste monies on a new brand, whilst we the punters leave.

We have stayed at Lady Margaret's Park several times over the years and think it has a wonderful location especially the canal walks from the site. We are inclined to use our own facilities so the quality or otherwise of the showers would not impact on us. I assume most could use their onboard facilities if the showers were not to their liking?

We use LMP at least once every year as we have friends to visit in the area.

Generally we like it, have not been bothered by the factory noise.

Toilet block is always clean, but water pressure in the showers does leave a bit to be desired.  Must be the worst we have encountered in the CC network.

If we are to use our on board facilities then the prices  should be adjusted accordingly. Make it a £14 site?

Looks very nice, and very reasonably priced. We will have to give it a go when in that area. Unfortunately at 70/80 miles distant not really an alternative for The Chirk area though.

Well we have had our week at Lady Margaret's and so glad that we went. Thanks to everyone who was so encouraging. The showers are showing their age but perfectly adequate.

The weather we had was terrible but there is so much to do and see in the area that we will have to return.

We have now moved on to Lanberris. Climbed Snowdon yesterday, can't move my legs today!

Glad you enjoyed your stay there. Pity about the weather; we were lucky last year - some great walking in and around that area. Still, you've got a good excuse to go back now! smile

For those thinking about Moorhampton, it's a cracking little site, good base for Hereford and again lots of good walking to be had!
