Squeaking brakes on new caravan

On my first trip with my new caravan on nearing the campsite my brakes made a really loud squeaking sound. Since then they've kept on making the noise.

Ive been in touch with the dealer who sold me the caravan in March this year, but they cannot inspect the brakes until 20th July! I want to go on holiday before then and the dealer will not confirm what's causing the noise or if the caravan is safe to use!

could you please help me?

I assume the noise is coming from the wheel hubs.

It doesn't need a caravan dealer to check the brakes. Any competent person who understands vehicle brakes should be able to help.

Have only just seen this post.  A most unsatisfactory solution as I suspect it is only an adjustment that is needed to either the brakes or bearing sorted.  He may have sold you a product that is unsafe to use.  Check with Citizens Advice as you may have loads of rights under the Consumer Protection Law.  Push dealer hard and if you cannot get him to be sensible you may be able to get them fixed by another dealer and claim against the one  who sold you the caravan.  Did you pay a part of the cost (over £100) using a Credit Card?  If so a call to the card company may help as they are equally liable under Law.

How far have you driven since the 'squeal' started?

If you are not able to jack up the caravan and investigate or do not feel competent to do so and are concerned I would contact a local mobile caravan service engineer.

No idea where you are. Somebody may be able to recommend if you state your general location.

I would point out to the dealer that to wait until the 20th July for a potential safety issue is not acceptable. Make a bit of a fuss, in person with other customers listening if necessary.

However, just a thought, are you sure it's the brakes not the hitch. Occasionally the Alko type hitches can make a terrible squeaking noise, particularly when you start manovering on twisty bumpy minor roads, approaching a site. This is caused by contamination on the friction pads in the hitch. A quick clean off with brake cleaner will cure this problem. Might be worth a try if you are not certain the noise is coming from the brakes.

On reflection, following Comeyras' comments I re-read the OP. If you have had the caravan so recently it is unreasonable that you should wait so long or pay out. I would expect that the dealer could find room to squeeze you in to sort what should be a minor problem.

I have had an occasional 'squeak' but usually when the 'van has been stood a while and certainly soon passes.
