Hi All,

Yesterday we exchanged our 1st ever 6kg propane Calor cylinder. We got charged £24 for a Calor Lite cylinder & the dealer said it was £21 for standard 6kg propane  (but he had none in stock and only had the Lite cylinders). I was thinking is £24 cheap or expensive?

So what do you all pay?

The prices quoted are correct according to the Calor suggested retail prices.However....as far as i am aware the refill should be like for like(Calor law). The extra cost of a refill for a "lite" bottle is,in my view,a con!

if youre one of those campers that makes a tiny gas cylinder last 'all year' or more, i wpuldnt worry about the price, its not a recurring cost.

if you use a fair bit more than this, and especially of you travel abroad and might need a replacement while away, give refillables some consideration.

you are paying for 6kg of gas - so why is it more for a lite?

I suspect that Calor would say that the bottles do not have as many reuses before being scrapped.

I paid around £16.50 on site for a 3.9kg bottle. Which I am happy with. I suspect that I am one of those low users as at that rate it would cost me £20 for my typical 18 weeks a year.

Yes. I would save around £2 or so on a 3.9kg bottle. However in many areas I might drive 13 miles to go and collect and return instead of walking to the reception on site.

They are £21.60 and £19.90 at Go Outdoors. However, I tend to replace them either on site, or when the van goes in for its service, where the price is a few pounds more. We don't get through a lot of gas and it is simply more convienient than driving to Go Outdoors. Plus probably not a lot in it price wise, if it is a special trip.
