Hi All

We are brand new to caravanning and have just brought our first caravan which is an Avondale Avocet, its in immaculate condition as the previous 1 owner only used it occasionally and then only ever used it to sleep in! Everyone keeps telling us what a van it is! the cooker hasn't even been used in 17 years as its a 2002 build and the previous owner had everything put in it! So its like owning a new caravan :)

We took her out for her first run and weekend stay at a club site White House Beach Caravan Club Site and we couldn't have asked for a better start to our first caravan experience, the assistant wardens there Janet & Peter were incredible and nothing was to much trouble and given I have had major open heart surgery Peter was a "God Send" when we were pitching up for the very first time not only helping myself but given us loads of really helpful hints & tips when trying out for our selves next time around!

If this is what caravan experiences is all about then count us in for life "why haven't we done this years ago!"

We have already booked next trip down to folk stone in June and are really looking forward to it! if you see us on site come up and say hello we aren't hard to spot as we are the only "cream" van on site!..lol

If only we would have done this years ago! I think we missed a trick here 5 star hotels are great but caravanning in your own van just adds another star..lol

    Hi Jill & Steve

We got some great advice which works! like you we never towed before and I felt very nervous but its easy when you start my advice "Take it easy " and you will be fine! I did however learn something from Peter our assistant warden and that was to rub your tow-bar down with "wet & Dry" until all the black paint has been removed! Why you ask? well if you leave it with paint on that can get between your pads on the stabilizer and then before you know it you are squeaking and creaking all the way down the road...lol So don't forget to rub that tow ball until it shines through and all the paint is removed! Thanks for your comments and enjoy your first outing

    Hi gatewaya89.

Welcome to our lovely hobby and the wonderful world of CT.

If the site you've booked in Folkestone is Black Horse Farm you should be quite happy. There's a nice pub just over the road,Milestone Caravans are just up the road in Hawkinge if you forget anything or have problems.Dover Castle is a couple of miles away with the docks nearby for ferries. Canterbury is a few miles up the road with lots to see and do and there are loads of other places to visit in the area. There's 1 or 2 caravaners and motorhomers living ig Kent on CT and I'm sure that if you want any info they will be happy to help.

    Hi Mike

I think first better introduce us I'm Ansley & my other half is Jane think this sounds better than gatewaya89..lol

Anyway you are spot on Black Horse farm is the destination for June and we are really looking forward to it, We intend to visit said pub..lol and Dover castle as i have heard that you can go down into the world war 2 bunkers? also planning to visit Hastings as well as other half loves to browse and shop.

Was thinking about CT but not sure if we are ready for them yet? was told these are small little sites up to 5 vans and not very many have hard standing? not sure if this info is correct just what we have picked up?

Have you stayed on any good one's?

Hi Ansley/Jane.Dover Castle is realy interesting and if you are National Trust members White Cliffs is just past the castle and they have recently opened Fan Bay Deep Shelter which is a second world war shelter and they say it's very interesting.Haven't done it as it's a long walk and the old ticker aint up to it.CT by the way is club together what you're thinking of are CLs small 5 van sites.Rye has some nice old shops and it's close to Hastings, and if you like odd places Dungeness is worth a visit maybe by train from Hythe (the romney hythe and dymchurch railway).

    Have fun

    Hi Mike

Thanks for that my old ticker has just had a new aorta valve fitted back in Nov 2016, Now don't laugh but I actually do tick now like a secondhand clock and if its quiet you can actually here it..lol

Anyway feel like a new person so may give that walk a go as we love the views and I love all things world war 2, always feel like I'm saying thanks to all those that done so much to let us have what we have today! by never forgetting what they did and trying to learn what it must have been like, hence visit to the bunkers if they are open?

Hi Ansley & Jane and Jill & Steve.  Welcome to the world of caravanning.  Glad you enjoyed your first outing in the van and got bitten by the bug (hopefully the only bug).  Do let us know how you get on in the future.

CT has lots of info from posters & the drop down menus at the top.  Enjoy your new leisure activity. It will take you to places you would never have thought about before owning a caravan.   Good luck.

    Welcome Ainsley and Jane.

It's lovely to hear about your trip.

As MJ730 said, CL's are our Certificated Locations.

These are all Member exclusive with maximum 5 pitches.

You do need to book these direct with the site and they all differ.

Some will have hard standing pitches and some won't.  They can be found in the red section of your Sites Directory.

Fingers crossed, Camouflage enjoys the first trip out just as much as you did.

Ainsley's new "ticker" and caravan have given him a new lease of life, by the sounds of things.  cool

Thank you so much for your positive comments regarding the wardens at White House Beach.  I will pass that onto their Regional Manager.  They will be pleased to hear about the support given.

I hope you all continue to enjoy many trips out with your outfits and the weather improves.  It feels like Autumn today!
