Club WiFi Resetting

Am using a wifi router device to allow multiple items to connect to the club wifi. I have stayed in 4 different club sites in the last 3 weeks and have noticed that on the site I am on now the wifif seems to re-set itself every morning. On the other sites I would remain connected for the duration of the stay but now I have to reconnect every day. I know this site had a wifi upgrade over the winter so wonder if the club or Air Angel have got wise to this and are doing their best to discourage the use of such devices?

Only one device at a time is permitted on Club Wi-fi. Are you really admitting to bending the rules on the open forum?

That stipulation is in place to prevent people using more than their fair share of download and, thereby, disadvantaging others.

Have to agree with tinwheeler.  I looked at this earlier today and thought i must be misreading this!  At £25 for the year my husband and i just bought separate logs ins.  Why would you want numerous devices, its only for basic internet and email, the system can't cope with any more than that!

I guess that's the sort of response I should have expected!

Its nothing to do with stealing more bandwidth or disadvantaging anyone. It purely for convienience, having a phone, tablet and computer which need to be logged on and off each time to use the club WiFi.......you can't do anything more than check emails and a bit of light surfing.......so no need to panic!

I think you will now find that on most sites you will be "logged out"after a period of inactivity

So why the need for multiple devices if that's all you can do?

Yes, it is the sort of response any responsible person using common sense should have expected as your actions sound like fiddling the system. Whether you are or not, I couldn't possibly say.

When the annual charge was introduced we were told on CT that the idea was that devices would remain logged in, so that things like emails could be trickled to them as they arrived, rather than downloaded as a block. Thus spreading the demand somewhat. However, my experience is that it varies from site to site. I think it may be demand related, so if a lot are using it, the system logs off inactive accounts.

As for the morality of using a router to connect multiple devices, I would agree with TW. However the CAMC do not help the argument, in that you are allowed to connect as many devices as you like to the web site (inc CT) for nothing. In effect depriving those paying for acess of bandwidth. Well nobody ever accused the CAMC of being logical.😂

That had not really occurred to me Steve.

The Club allows you to connect one device at a time to its WiFi. Is a MiFi device not one device? If you are a family of four with both parents with internet connected smart phones plus a laptop/tablet each and two kids with tablets are we really expecting that family to pay £150 a year to access the site internet? The MiFi device will only pull in one connection and from my experience of most Club sites that is usually under one Mb when I have done speed tests so all they are doing is sharing what is already a pretty low internet speed between six devices. I am of course playing devils advocate and I expect my scenario would give the family a pretty poor experience. However the time when we only took one internet connectable device with us is long gone for the majority of people using Club sites. BTW I don't use a MiFi device and if I find the site Wifi too slow I usually switch to my mobile data which invariably is much more reliable if I have a good signal.

There is a slight difference, David. A Mi-fi device takes a mobile signal and converts it to wi-fi. That wouldn't use site wi-fi at all.

The other device, which seems to be what the OP has, is a wi-fi booster which takes a wi-fi signal, eg club site wi-fi, boosts the signal and, via a router, creates a wi-fi hotspot to which multiple devices can be connected. This boosted signal can even be strong enough to allow neighbouring units to share the hotspot. The boosters/routers cost around £150-£200 so people could soon recoup the cost versus site wi-fi fees. I think it is clear that a boosted signal would often give sufficient download for multiple devices and it is plainly obvious why the club attempts to restrict the number of devices per purchased login.

I researched the devices but do not have one preferring instead to use the mobile signal.

    TW

I was using the term MiFi (or probably misusing!) as a means of describing the distributing the signal within the caravan/motorhome  not the mobile data sort. I do have a booster which I have not used on a Club site yet, so must give it a try to test the speed I get!

We have a booster (not a mifi) and it allows us to pick up weaker signals or even bt fon off site. Yes it counts as one device and yes you can connect many devices to it but I think you sign up to the terms and conditions when you buy site wifi so I'd not be surprised to find the connection dropping to kick 'always on' devices off
