Skylight problem in motorhome

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. We have a Peugeot motorhome and the skylight has been opening perfectly but yesterday it has developed a fault. Usually as I push it open it raises with no problem/ease and stays raised, now when I open it it won't stay open it just falls/slams down. Are these operated as I suspect by gas struts? If so how do I find out which skylight I have? The handbook doesn't seem to tell me. Is this easy to repair? I live in Birmingham does anyone know of a company or mobile engineer that can repair it? Just to be clear this is the large window in the roof/lounge area, not the small one that just pushes up for ventilation. Sorry for all of the questions, not quite sure where to start! Thank you.

Can you give the year,  and model of your motorhome, so that someone might be able to identify it?   Or can you take a photograph and publish it on here?

We had this problem. We carried a prop to hold it open if necessary until it was fixed. We were able to buy new struts so not the whole skylight. In this case for we read our local caravan chap 😉. Wasn't wildly expensive even with labour. If you're handy you could probably source and fit yourself.

Good luck and do let us know how you get on. Sorry were not local to you for recommendations.

Thank you both for your replies, much appreciated. The motorhome details are:

    Peugeot Boxer Elddis Expedition

    2006

I will get a photo as soon as I can but may take a couple of days as we are away at the moment.

    Thank you.

I don't know whether you've solved the problem yet, but the rooflight is likely to be a Heki (Elddiss brochure for 2006) (click for link) and you can buy replacement gas struts and fit them yourselves.  Information from a post on another forum and video on YouTube
