Hi everyone.

Does anyone have experience towing with the new Santa Fe, we have just changed our van to a Swift Conqueror which we find a bit heavy for our existing tow car.

Many thanks in advance

We have a Kia Sorento , built in the same factory as Hyundai, we gather from our dealer the only difference is in the trim and variants!,

We are delighted with the Kia towing an 1800 kg Sterling Wayfarer, has all the grunt and stability we require!

I have a 2016 Santa Fe Premium SE. Not yet done lots of towing in it (just a few weekends) but off to France later this month. I used to have a Volvo XC60 2.4 and I would say the SF compares well with it. I get around 36mpg not towing around town, and around 28mpg towing. My van is almost 1600 kg laden, and inevitably car is full of stuff.

overall, I find the SF a more comfortable ride, and gadgets like the reversing camera, blind spot warning etc are very helpful. I have the 7 seat version, not that I needed it, but the deal was to good to refuse. I used carwow and got some £7k+ off retail. If you have any specific questions, please ask.

l have just bought a 2016 Wiggins edition premium se, bought it new 30th December got 5500k off if l took the van before the 1st of Jan couldn't miss the deal. l have a Lunar Clubman SB 2015 which we used to tow with 07 Shogun lucky if l got 19.5 mpg. Up to now the SF is doing 28 t0 30 mpg around town towing after two trips, one to Bridlington from Cheshire and the other to Keswick, averaging 25.5 MPG l hope to get 28 to 30 when l have added a few more miles on the clock. Only done 3500K so far. The BDS system does not work when towing as it see's the van all the time, other than that all the bells and whistles are fine rear view camera drops it straight on the tow ball. The ride and Comfort is far superior to the Shogun whether it will be has reliable only time will tell. The large sky view sun roof is brill as are the blinds in the back, no need for the climate control these keep the back cool. The self levelling suspension is good, as others have said loads of room in the back to take the awning and lots of room to spare. Up to now we are pleased with the SF her indoors picked it and loves it to bits, l will reserve judgement till l see this 30mpg towing, a little sceptical on that score.

    Gents

Very useful post, especially as I am booked for a test drive in a SF this week.

I am just about to retire and need to replace a car that is now too small, but my quandary now however is not so much "which" car, as to how best to purchase it.

Given that most of the "offers" all come with strings such as a limit of 10kmper year mileage - is it best to buy the car outright or rent it ?

    ....thoughts appreciated.....

l bought mine outright which l have always done the reason being l keep my cars 8 to ten years. This SF will be our last tow car so it will have to last the length of our towing life. all the others were around 12 to 18 months  old all low mileage all Shoguns 3 of them, so the SF has a lot to live up to. l am 65 in August so the SF will have to do 12 years of towing, having said that we may down size the caravan back to a 2 berth later in life if we down size our property. One way is to scour the second hand Market for a good low mileage SF, most diesels are good for 150K. we nearly went that rout but got such a good offer on the Wiggins addition. The new car market has slowed considerably so should be some good deals knocking about. Up to now l am pleased with my choice with the SF we can get both sets of golf clubs plus the electric trolleys in the boot with out dropping any seats which we could never do with the Shoguns. As in my previous post to you the towing capability compares well with the Shogun and believe me they are an exceptional tow car. Hope you find what you are looking for, others will have their own views, it will come down to your gut instinct in the end

Many thanks to all, it has been very helpful.

Especially as it appears if one shops around you can get a good deal.

We are off to France in July for a month so will start seriously looking when we return.

    Happy caravanning!

    cool

Apart from a couple of trim alterations the big difference with  either the Hyundai and Kia is the warranties 5yrs Hyundai against 7yrs Kia

I test drove both the Santa Fe and Sorrento (plus others), and to me, the SF was a much smoother ride, particularly the auto gear change. Maybe it wasn't typical, but both were nearly new demo vehicles.

as for buying or personal lease, I've always bought. The SF was purchased with finance, but only because (weirdly) that bought a better net price, although I paid off the balance almost immediately. Having just retired, the main reason I avoided the personal lease, was because my change in life style meant forecasting an accurate mileage was tricky (to avoid penalty charges which lease incurred if over agreed mileage for duration).

We replaced our 2012 Sorento with a Santa Fe Wiggins in November. We were going for another Kia but we got a big discount on the Hyundai.

Its loaded with extras, some of which we were not bothered about, but the heated/cooled seats are great as is the panoramic roof. My wife likes the heated steering wheel and memory seats. The camera is good too.

It has auto parking assist like many cars, but have'nt tried it yet!

Its only done 3600 miles but tows very well and showed 32mpg last trip towing, 40 easy solo. Its a manual.200bhp and lots of torque is a bonus!

Its off to France for a month soon so will gain some kms!

So far no regrets a very well made and comfortable vehicle.

My Wiggins Santa Fe is auto get no where near 30 mpg, best so far is 25 mpg. l found it did better on the motorway if we didn't use cruise control, like the last post got all the toys. Solo l get about 35 mpg on a long run. We are off to the daughters in Lytham today so its a trip up the M60, M61, M6 and the M55 now its done nearly 4000 miles it will be interesting to see if it has increased since the last trip. It's still way better on fuel economy than our last car which was a Shogun. Towing has l have said before tows just has good has the good old Shogun which surprised me.
