calor gas light
Last week I called into Go Outdoors to get an exchange Calor Lite bottle I was told that they were no longer available but were being replaced by the standard 6 kg bottle . Now I know this subject has been discussed before but has any other member experienced this lately.

I have just checked the Calor website and the dealer list no longer has Go Outdoors as stockists, so possibly they are not stocking them any longer, but as far as I know Calor have no plans to stop supplying them. Check the Calor website and look up local suppliers for your area.

Just swapped a heavy bottle back to a "Lite" following the recall shortage. That was at a proper Calor dealer though.

Just exchanged a 6Kg lite at the local Calor depot.
Many rumors appeared when the recent recall happened.
Many regular rumors also surface every year in the spring because it's the peak season and many small suppliers run out of stock.
It seems it's just a normal seasonal event

Interestingly I read on another forum that Calor have confirmed that Calor Lite will be discontinued but an alternative lightweight product would be available in 2018. Now whether that is at odds with what you have been told or whether Calor are saying that they are continuing with a lightweight cylinder I don't know. I wonder whether they are thinking of going down the fibreglass cylinder model which is popular in France but that is a guess on my part.

Preston Caravans have today posted on their website that Calor have announced their intention to cease production of Calor lite cylinders and on exchange they will be replaced by standard 6Kg cylinders.
However whilst the Calor site says Lite cylinders are no longer available to order online it is not definitive about total removal from the distribution network.
Maybe they have informed the dealers before a public announcement.

I wonder how soon before Calor come up with a reason that the "price" of heavy weight cylinders will have to rise to bring them in line with Lites because of the latest excuse "brexit"
,then withdraw lites which will then keep their profit margins up, as their prices have never come down since the price of oil came down 0 -
Thank you for all your replies , I have just this afternoon been into my local calor dealer who cannot supply me with a calor lite and could not tell me when they would be available. I think I will go back to the std 6 kg a lot less hastle

I've just exchanged my bottle this morning, at a Calor depot, was told that Calor are no longer manufacturing this bottle due to any scratches (deep) they have to replace the bottle due to the lightweight steel they use. They told me next time I exchange it will be for a normal 6 kg heavy bottle.
They also said that Calor are looking into a different material hopefully to maintain the lightness of the bottle.
I was lucky as took the last of the 6 kg lites.

So glad I got rid of Calor cylinders 3 yrs ago. Safefill - lighter, non rusting, can see what gas you have left and so so so much cheaper! Yesterday I popped to Corby to fill my 10.3 and 8.6 kg cylinders from empty. £16.95- If I had bought Calor cylinders with the same amount of gas- £75.40!!

As we all i think accept that refillable cylinders are cheaper for those who use gas a lot,but as it seems the orange umbilical rules for the majority (we use about a 6kg every 18 months) the initial set up costs with refillables in never going to be a good return on the investment,,
So if lites are being fazed out then thats another £2-3 we should save

Was reading an article today suggesting the reason was the metal is so thin that when they try to remove the tap for renovating the bottles they rip out rather than unscrew🤔

On the 13th April I e-mailed customer services and got this reply from Tom Hopkins, "I have nothing from our cylinder asset guys to give me the impression the 6kg Lite's are being phased out ,so (to the best of my knowledge) there is no plan to phase out the 6kg lite bottle "

Update
I have just had an e-mail from calor customer services to say that the 6kg Lite IS being phased out and a new lightweight bottle is being bought in ,expected 2018
customers with a 6kg Lite will have it replaced with a 6kg steel ,if no lite's are in stock
