Pot Holes

Hi all - has anyone else noticed the new strategy being employed by local councils (ours at least)   to deal with pot holes. Some months ago a van pulled up in our road and the occupant proceeded to paint circles round the holes, at last something is being done you might think, no such luck, Friday another van pulled up occupant proceeded to touch up the badly faded previous effort. I wonder how many coats of paint will be used before some tarmac arrives.

We have many faded circles but sadly the council have an extremely large tin of fresh paint and a very durable paint brushwink

I can't recall where the was, but some wag made very rude graffiti using potholes in a bid to shame the LA into sorting something out! It worked for a while. We have really deep ones around here!

You are lucky that they paint them!

In Kent they ignore them completely.

Would they not use less paint puting circles around the good bits?

Round here they find a pothole and when there are a few they relay that bit of the road. The road is then dug up by BT or someone else and we are back to square one.

Apparently my council are looking into it.

Years ago when we came to France, we used to think how poor their road surfaces were compared to ours. How times have changed.☹️

...and Spain.....we are positively primitive compared to them when it comes to road surfaces.....we just cant get it right, after a relaying, chunks go missing really soon....

They paint round the potholes in our county which,  does let you know to drive round themwink then they do eventually fill them insmile but in the meantime a pothole has appeared either side of the painted onesurprisedwhich will not be filled in because they have not been painted yell

Councils record pot holes and mark them with paint. Once the pot hole is logged by the council it officially exists and can therefore be an acceptable reason for a complaint and claim for damage costs by the general public. Any claim for damages made for a hole which doesn't exist can be rejected. I know this because I once severely damaged my car when I hit one of the holes which the council claimed didn't exist. I pointed out to the council quite a few similar holes in that stretch of road, only to be informed that as these holes hadn't been logged by the council, no claims could be accepted. Right! That solved that then!!

Many years ago I dropped into a pothole and damaged the actual wheel of the car. It had been 'painted' and as such the authorities were aware. I went into the council offices (Notts) and played merry hell! They did say that as they knew about it and it hadn't been repaired they were responsible - and I got some recompense! Fair do but I somehow can't see that happening now.
