Inconsiderate Dog owners
I am trying to have a peaceful afternoon on a spectacular site in Scotland. However there is a regular interruption of the peace by dogs barking with the owners doing little to stop them. Surely if you have one, two, three or four dogs you should control them.Perhaps it is time for our Club to start charging a nominal fee, say £5 a night for each dog. Even possible membership suspension if the membe cannot control their dogs.

As it has been said before ,charging for dogs is not the answer, As all the owner of a barking dog will say is ," I've paid for it"
A bit more interaction from the warden when booking in may help .at no time have I been asked if I have a dog when I have booked in , if they knew you had a dog ,a bit of friendly advice to the owner .such as where the dog walk is ,a reminder to keep it on a lead ,etc
P.S, are we allowed to discus dogs ?????????

Wasn't there an almost identical thread to this a couple of weeks ago, I think at Burrs Park. There, the OP had a quiet word with the "offending" owner and the problem was solved.
Worth a try, don't you think? I know we'd be mortified if we thought our two were annoying other folk and nobody said anything!

There certainly was a similar thread running. I believe the general consensus was to have a quiet word with the dog owner. If that fails chat with the wardens.
I'm sure that must dog owners would be mortified to find their dog was annoying others. But then most wouldn't let a dog bark unchecked, there may well be a reason for it.
Dogs are no different to other visitors on site including adults and children! Sometimes others don't realise that they are causing a nuisance unless it is gently pointed out. Rather like folks walking through your pitch only the person 'suffering' the issue can seek to resolve the issue at the time.
Most folks don't bite and I think we mustn't expect someone else to resolve our issues.
No I'm not anti dog we don't have one at present. I'm not anti child either, they've grown now and sadly my grandchildren live the other side of the planet so I like to watch others 😆

What have you done about it, LPC, seeing it bothers you so much? Have you had a word with the dogs' owners or the warden or simply come on here to moan?
Perhaps the club may one day enforce the suspension penalty for all sorts of rule breaking but I'm not holding my breath. Incidentally, the club has already said it has no intention of charging for dogs so you're on a losing wicket there.

You don't have to tour dog free to be annoyed by someone else's poorly supervised dog. But best thing is to have a polite word, if that fails, make the Wardens aware. Charging isn't the answer.

We have two dogs and I must be honest I prefer them to most people We have also been on sites where dogs bark continually or every time someone walks past their unit to get to the facility's and find it very annoying. Like most dog owners we do our upmost to keep ours quiet and expect others to do the same but as people have said go and explain you find it annoying, we had to do this on a cl as my daughter wouldn't walk to the toilet on her own as a little Jack Russell kept 'going for her' as she walked past but when you think about it they are only doing their job....protecting their family and 'home'

I have two dogs and keep them as quiet as possible to avoid disturbing other members but there have been many times when inconsiderate members who gather together in awnings and have indulged a little to much with drink that have disturbed me should we put a £5 per person charge on them. Unfortunatly we do not live in a perfect world so we all have to put up with things we do not like.

if the club starts charging fiver per dog them I'm asking for my membership fee back and quitting going away as I can't afford to add £10 on to my fees blame the owner for allowing them to bark unchecked

I have two dogs who are generally very quiet. Having said that when recently on a site in Scotland adults cutting across my pitch, making a crunching noise on the hardstanding and passing the van close enough to bump into my wing mirror did provoke the odd bark. It is possibly the only occasion that I wish that I had two Dobermans or similar!
As a lone traveller I didn't challenge them or contact the wardens as I was only there for one night and it was easier just to put up with their ignorance and extremely bad manners.
I did move the ehu lead to a strategically inconvenient place for trespassers and it was quite amusing to see the main culprit try and climb over it rather than divert a few feet!

I'm having similar problems with awning owners banging pegs in. Any chance of making rubber mallets mandatory.
I suggest you follow my lead and invest in a set of ear-plugs.

I think most dog owners try and keep their dogs quite but they are animals and no matter how well trained there will be times when they bark.
we was at a site last week and someone had their radio a bit too loud, maybe they should have been banned?, either say something to the owner or get over it and move on.

Is it not the duty of the pack leader, and not the lowest member of the pack to decide who or what is a threat. Image if the dog were a mastiff not a cute little terrier. I was bitten last year by a little yorkshire terrier, which although rather funny to the owner, not so funny if a child were involved.
Surely we should stop making excuses and laying the responsibility at the door of those affected but squarely at the door of the owner.
I am fairly sure in most cases, the dog has just been allowed to behave in a manner it chooses and the owner has been unable to manage the problem. If you watch a dog that barks a lot, the owner rarely attempts to stop it. Should be compulsory to watch a few episodes with Ceasar Milan as he rehabilitates these kind of behaviours without much trouble.
Take a commercial site we were on last week, there must have been over 30 dogs on site but only 2 outfits were allowing their dogs to be a nuisance one even appeared to relish his dog barking at a nearby dog as he seemed to take a direct path past its pitch rather than use the pathway. The other dog by the way took no notice at all and just lay chilled at the owners feet.
Its a shame really that animals that give so much pleasure to their families can be brought into question by the few.

Perhaps you should have reported the matter to the police. They probably would not have found a prosecution for not keeping a dog under proper control quite as funny. It no longer has to be in a public place for them to take action.

Guess what my five year old grandson trod in while I was walking him to school this morning - not just on his shoe but somehow all up his leg as well. I had no wet wipes with me so hope the teachers will clean him up.

Why should you expect teachers to do that for you?

Agreed, but let's remember it is a few. From your own post 28 out of 30 well behaved dogs - that's 90+% - a better ratio than humans on some sites we've visited!

A peaceful afternoon or evening can be spoilt by all sorts of things, ranging from grass cutting on your area of the site, loud televisions or music, a generator, low flying jets, a group of friends enjoying a get together, a dog barking, smoke from a BBQ, bottles being thrown into the bin....I could go on and on and on.......the problem is you are on a site sharing with other people, it's one of the drawbacks but probably beats staying at home and never going away.

Well said dreamer 1
I also have two dogs, and do my utmost to make sure they don't infringe on anyone's relaxation and enjoyment. Its just a shame some don't do the same. But I get fed up keep reading all these anti dog comments by non dog owners. If something bothers you just go and have a polite word with them. If they are rude/not interested report it to the warden.
Posting about it on here will have no impact at all and suggesting dog owners get charged extra is a stupid comment in my opinion .
On my last two trips I have seen on many occasions something which is far more important that needs addressing, cars/motorhomes going way too fast on site, many of them with young children inside. God forbid there were an accident but I bet I can imagine the reaction if there was from one of the offenders

I have no axe to grind either way. However, although they don't use the toilet block. There is often a dog walk provided, plus bins to empty. Also quite a few sites are providing a dog wash. So perhaps not such a stupid comment.
PS I don't mind the expense of the dog wash, it is very useful to wash our muddy boots off.😀

Someone on a recent thread mentioned that CAMC sites should be benchmarking themselves against the private Ross Park near Totnes.
We were there just last week - huge enclosed dog exercise area, poo bags supplied at various points around the site, warm water dog wash - and dogs go free there!

Sounds like they are responding to their customer base to me, I would suggest a high proportion of caravan and motorhome owners participate in the hobby because they can have there family pets with them.
