New caravan - no glass storage!

Just taken delivery of a Swift Fairway (Challenger) 635 which is full of high tech kit but nowhere to store wine glasses or tumblers.  Anyone got a solution or found a similar problem.  I know I could by the 3 or 6 glass spring clip holders but I'm loathe to screw these into the caravan wall in case I invalidate the warranty on this fancy bonded GRP wall system they are now built with.  Looks like it's an IKEA cardboard carrier in the bed locker until pitching up and then transferring to the cupboard.  Satellite tracking but no glass holders - progress eh!

I'd be more concerned about Swift's build quality, tbh, so if that's your only gripe you've done well. cool

No glass holders! My how will you surviveundecided

To be honest always thought the cocktail cabinet a waste of space. If you want holders screw them to the side partition walls in a top locker rather than the van walls. Mine just travel in a top locker in a bubble wrap bag, simples.smile

we do have a 'bar cupboard' (flash German name for top cupboard) which does take four wine glasses and four 'long drink' (g&t?) glasses, but it would worry me if we didnt, theyd go somewhere else.

as TW says, if the rest of the van is ticketty boo, least of your worries.

wouldnt swap a rotten van for a drinks cabinet....undecided

i hope warranties dont get invalidated for screwing something light to a wall.....fire extingusher, fire blanket, smoke alarm, co2 alarm etc, etc....?

as it happens, theres enough real solid wood (no cardboard at all it seems) to fix these things in place.

That is so funny! We have a very posh tambeau in our MH......usually to be found stuffed full of bread, croissants, crumpets etc.... Two wine glasses neatly clipped, two tumblers neatly clipped. Quality MH ours though, none of yer Swiftlybuiltbacktothedealersformonthsonend!

Hope things go well for you asl1956, you will resolve the glass storage I am sure!smile

We actually have a drop down cocktail cabinet which had 6 crystal wine glasses in it when we bought the van. The glasses are now at home and we use the cabinet for storing toilet rolls.embarassed

A far better use TW! Keeps them dry and to hand, adaptation at its finest!

I like those vans where you buy a bathroom but use it to store things. We are looking for our next MH to have a slightly larger bathroom, so that at night time one of the dogs can sleep in there!cool

We take two each of - wine glasses, champagne flutes, tall thin glasses (for G&T), shorter glasses (for single malt or sloe gin).

Wrapped in kitchen roll in a large cheese cracker box, in a low cupboard. Then unwrapped and stood on shelf on site.

Never let it be said we don't have the right glass for the drink.

P.S. We don't drink beer or cocktails so no tankards or whatever cocktails are served in.

We are in no rush to replace what we have in truth BB, very wary of the quality of a lot of new MHs. We get along fine in our little mobile pod, baring in mind the size of our two lumpy Labs, and don't want to go much longer, as we love touring around daily with no parking up issues, or access to some more remote countryside.

We shall look round in earnest when we do change. Could be end lounge set up, gives lots of living space, choice of double or single beds, reasonable size bathroom. Some AS/Mercedes models fit this scenario, and they are possibly the best quality we have seem in British built vans, (at least the slightly older ones are, quality seems to have plummeted on newer models after sell out!) We like some of the smaller Hymers as well, I like the thoughts of the twin singles made up all the time, over the garage, but just not quite sure about the living space behind the seats. Size will be the key for us, we shan't go over 6-6.5 metres, will bring us too many issues. We still have our old van to do up and park up for lounging type stays on a single site, so our options are open. I would love another dog as well, but nowhere to put it in MH at moment!

Saw an interesting bed arrangement in MMM June magazine, chausson 630 Flash. Not sure on build quality of Chaussons, and a tad too long for us, but an interesting layout.

We do the same as others.....wrap glasses in bubble wrap in a low cupboard, then put them in the 'drinks' cupboard when we get there.

Wouldn't trust those spring clips while travelling.

Small plastic baskets on sale everywhere now can be used to store nearly everything in the cupboards of caravans/motorhomes food, kettle, teapot (if you carry one) glasses, etc place on non slip mat and they won`t go anywhere.

We use plastic wine glasses. Despite what some people say we cannot detect any difference in taste using them and they survive just being loose in the locker.

We exchanged our 2008 Abbey last year for a 2015, used once, Swift Challenger Se.  All mod cons and extras except for glass holders, which we had in the old van.  We asked the dealer to fit some for us prior to delivery (only a minor job, but why do it yourself when you can get someone else to do it?).  Anyway, the glass holders can be fixed to the side panel of any cupboard without affecting anything in the caravan warranty. Our's are on the right side of the cupboard adjacent to the microwave, and the the cupboard on the left is already fitted with a plate rack and cup holders on the side wall.  Go for it, and fit them.  You won't have any problems.

You couldwink......Get a foam kneeling pad, stand your wine glasses upside down on the pad, draw around the rims leaving enough space between them so that they can't knock together. If you have tumblers with heavy bases stand these the correct way up and draw around the bases. Cut out the circles with one of those saw tooth hole cutters. Line the base of the locker with grip matting. Lay the pad in the locker, trimming to size if necessary. Place glasses in holes and jobs a good un. My locker took 1 1/2 pads, are a snug fit and the glasses don't move or rattle.
