Raising the Thetford toilet seat
Evening all...
I have a Thetford C200S toilet ( manual flush) fitted to my caravan.
My wife suffers from arthritis in both her knees and ankles and has great difficulty sitting on and getting off this toilet as it is quite low.
We have seat raisers on both toilets at home but sadly they won't fit the Thetford and I can't find anything that would. Thetford have nothing and the usual disability channels only cater for household toilets
I'm sure this subject must have been raised ( no pun intended) several times on the forum but I don't have the ability to find it.
Has anyone found a solution i.e. a seat that fits or been able to 'invent' an ingenious way of raising the seat 2 or 3 inches.
Thanking you in anticipation:-
Johnhinch.

Might it be possible to ask your dealer to modify your van by raising the 'platform' that the Thetford loo sits on, so that it is above the floor level of the bathroom by enough to make it comfortable for your wife to be able to sit down without being in pain.
I don't have an idea what is involved, but it might be worth taking advice from your dealer, or from one of the companies who specialise in modifying caravans for people with disabilities.

Here's another post which might just help:
Our need was temporary following a hip replacement. We were advised to check the local Red Cross's equipment loan volunteers what they had. I took Thetford's seat down there and found a hollow blown plastic "topper" that was ideal. I did make it extra secure with a rubber bungee tentioner at the rear. It was rigid enough to be left for both of us to use over the period it was needed.
We were loaned this for four months for which we made a donation.
It had the makers label and fitting instructions on the bag, so if needed just to track down what fits then the Red Cross may be helpful. One those 'blow up rings' might fit and raise the level enough for your wife to be comfortable.

Thanks ValDa.
I had seen a post similar to this but wanting something more permanent I did over look it. The thought that the makers name could have been on the carrying bag didn't cross my mind.
Never thought of taking the seat with me and finding something to fit rather than the other way round.
I'll bear in mind the idea of modifying the van till I've exhausted all less intrusive methods.
Thanks again. Much appreciated.
