Afternoon all,

It amazes me that on my new Caravan (2017 Swift Conqueror) that it comes with a very cheap plastic Jockey wheel & so i will be upgrading. I had a rubber one before but this is truly rubbish - Are there any observations or recommendations v pneumatic or the top range Alko with gauge?

I am not able to help you directly but would purely add the comment "ensure that any replacement jockey wheel will stow correctly for travel"

I have just purchased the ALKO Premium Jockey Wheel and fitted it to our T/A with AWD Power Touch Movers.

The reason I did was that our driveway is loose stone and the caravan dug in and caught the stone whilst manoeuvering.

The difference is a amazing. Glides over the stone without digging in plus the jockey wheel is much sturdier for a larger heavier caravan. I had previously slightly buckled the standard alko jockey wheel on this caravan whilst using the movers - no way will you damage the Premium jockey wheel - it is robust but with that, it is naturally heavier so bare that in mind.

A friend has just bought one for the same reason and is delighted - so thumbs up for the Premium jockey wheel from two of us - it would be nice if they were fitted as standard on heavier caravans but I'm sure it is a cost issue.

Our 2015 Lunar Clubman SB had the cheap plastic wheel changed it for the solid rubber type that Baileys fit, looked to getting the pneumatic type but it wouldn't fit inside the fairing case

I changed my plastic wheel for a pneumatic tyre on my Lunar Quasar and found it to be a big improvement when using the motor mover.

I was about to do the same on my latest 2014 Lunar Clubman but having read Heethers reply will check out the Bailey wheel referred to.

If I didn't have a motor mover I wouldn't bother because the Jockey wheel wouldn't get much use as a wheel since it only has to take the vans weight.

I have a plastic jockey wheel on my T/A new Elddis and although it looks the same as my old Swift it seems to dig in and it flexes a lot as well.

Why do you think the premium works better, is it the rubber tyre or better bearings?

My new Sprite has the cheaper plastic jockey wheel.

It has now  seized solid, 2 months old.

And useless on our Cotswold chippings drive. Just buries itself deeper the further you go.

Will be getting a pneumatic asap.
