Hi

We have just taken delivery of our new Disco 5 and will be off to France in the summer.  The car has all new LED lights so no spare bulb kits are available as they are dealer maintained.

Any advice on how this affects the French regulation for carrying spare bulbs as they physically are not available for the car - we always carry spares for the caravan however?

thanks

As far as I'm aware ..... the French only require you to carry spare bulbs for those lamps that you could be reasonably expected to change at the road side, without dismantling half your car . I'd  suspect that if one of your Disco's led tail lights failed,  it would require a complete new unit ..... hence you need not carry a spare in French France.

It is also possible that the cars system will, when it detects a fault, use another lamp in the same cluster to give an emergency light. i.e. rear fog at reduced intensity. Taking away the need to carry spares to meet various rules set by other countries.

I know of other vehicles that do this.    A few years back Vauxhall, on some models, fitted single filament bulbs to the rear for stop and tail and used the Can Bus system to increase brightness for stop lights when the brake pedal is applied.
