We collected our new caravan recently and was surprised that Alko have changed the hitch, requiring a new lock.

Our previous 2015 caravan with Alko hitch lock does not fit and I can not find out what the difference is or is it just Alko making a slight modification forcing you to buy a new hitch lock?

Does anyone know what the difference is apart from appearance?

Thanks in advance.

Guess I was lucky that our Maypole stronghold 5412 we had on our old vans Alko Hitchcock's (red) still fits our new Alko 3004!

Try and find a sympathetic ear at your dealers and tell them the situation and you were not told about the change and try and get a freebie, I would

    Hi,

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the main difference is that on the new ones, apart from the colour and markings to confirm it's clamped on OK is that there is no gap between the handles. I believe the old red lock will still work but you won't be able to close the handle and thus clamp the stabiliser on when it is fitted, meaning you can't use the lock and use the stabiliser together when towing.

That's the impression I got when looking at the hitch on new vans at the weekend but maybe someone who has one can confirm?

    Paul.

Just re-read your post and completely missed the fact you've picked up your new van and stated it doesn't fit... Doh!

Ignore all my previous post, and I guess it's more expense to factor in if I change the van. frown

The Al-Ko Hitch lock from our 2013 Swift fits our new Elddis, in fact easier (less jiggling) than on the Swift.

Not helpful to the OP problems perhaps but info is info even when it is abbreviated.
