We currently have a Lunar Clubman and tow it with a Land Rover Freelander TD4. We have on order a larger caravan (Fully laden about 1500kgs) so we are looking to get a bigger heavier car. Me being a careful sort I would like something in excess of 1775kgs. We are looking to spend £10,000.00 to £12500.00 has anyone got any advice as to what vehicle we should be looking at.

Thanks

Your Freelander should tow that with ease, we towed 1600kg MTPLM without any problems with a Freelander. Weight is not the sole issue for safe towing.

    Yes,

The Mercedes ML300CDI  See my comments in "Tow Cars & Towing" a fantastic tow car, the best I have had in 40 years of towing.  The only drawback is the £520pa tax class.  But you won't find a more stable tow car.

I will be selling my 2011 car soon, not because there is anything wrong, but declining health means the end of caravanning for me. I have had her from new and will be very sorry to lose her.  The 2014 Coachman will be going too.

Thanks MM, I guess its a decision that everyone has to make at some time. I had hoped to get at least one season but my lower back problem is affecting the nerves in both legs and so apart from the pain I think that everyone must think I'm drunk.

I may get away with putting the van down on a friends site in St Buryan, Cornwall, but its a very long way!  It really all depends on what the Spinal specialist says on Wednesday next.
